Where can I get a repair manual for my Mustang?

What's Available

Many, if not most, Mustang parts retailers have books, including Shop Manuals and factory assembly manuals, for sale, although not all of them advertise all manuals on their website.

Assembly Manuals

The factory assembly manuals, also known among Mustang aficianodos as the Osborn manuals because they were first licensed for distribution to hobbyists by Jim Osborn, are the same books used by assembly workers in Ford production plants.

Individual manuals cover separate parts of the car, including volumes on interior, body, electrical, chassis, engine components, and weld/sealant. The books contain illustrations and such details as part numbers and identification of fasteners.

Specify year of Mustang when ordering.

Shop Manuals

The Shop Manuals are the Ford Motor Company's instructions to mechanics on how to repair the cars and replace parts. Most Shop Manuals cover multiple Ford models; the 1965 manual, for example, is titled "1965 Comet, Falcon, Fairlane and Mustang Shop Manual."

For 1964, there is a Falcon-Comet shop manual plus a separate Mustang supplement.

Manuals for the years 1969 through 73 come in a 5 volume set (others are a single volume, plus the 64 supplement).
