What color should I paint my engine?

The following information was provided by Jeff Speegle, competition judge for the Mustang Club of America:

1964
170black block, orange-red valve cover & air cleaner
260black block, medium blue or orange-red valve covers and same color air cleaner, air cleaner intake snout and heat riser tube black
289black block, gold air cleaner and valve covers, air cleaner snout and heat riser tube black
1965
200black block, blue or orange-red valve cover and same color air cleaner
289black block, gold air cleaner and valve covers, air cleaner snout and heat riser tube black
1966
200blue block, valve cover, air cleaner (Sprint option---chrome air cleaner)

The block, head, oil pan and intake should be painted as a unit.

The fan, fan pulley, cranshaft pulley, generator/alternator bracket and air conditioner brackets are black.

The engine mount brackets, harmonic balancer, and the power steering brackets and pump can be black or natural metal. Air conditioning brackets on a 1971 or later can be black or natural.

Jeff cites several other year-specific alternatives; if you are preparing a car for MCA judging, you should obtain a copy of the Mustang Club of America Judges Rule Book from the Mustang Club of America.
