How do I care for my convertible top?

Sunlight, dirt, and flexing action are the primary culprits that wear convertible tops out. Keeping the car in a garage, out of the sun, is the best thing you can do for it, but that's not always possible.

Here are some tips for prolonging its life:

  1. Raise the top a few inches and unzip the rear plastic curtain before putting the top down, to relieve strain on the rear curtain.
  2. Keep the rear window clean. Dirt scratches the plastic as the window folds up. See the Vintage Mustang Forum discussion plastic vert window people take note!.
  3. Don't lower the top in cold temperatures when the plastic curtain is brittle. You may crack the plastic rear curtain, and it could cause tears in the canvas.
