Autofocus Modes Autofocusing
One of the following two AF modes is set automatically (not user selectable) to match the picture taking mode. The shutter does not release until the focus is achieved (AF priority).
One shot AF for automatic switching between One shot AF and predictaive AF. For still subjects: Autofocus locks when focus is achieved.

* With a USM lens, the focusing ring can be used after focus is achieved in the One shot AF mode or when autofocusing fails to achieve focus.

Manual focusing
Setting the lens' focus mode switch to MF enables manual focusing with the focusing ring. When the focusing point selection is automatic, focus aid is provided for the 7 focusing points.
When focus is achieved, the in focus indicator lights, but the beeper does not sound.

*When the shutter button is pressed halfway or when the exposure meter is active, the MF icon will blink at 2 Hz on the LCD panel.

Focusing point selection mode printing: In the program AE, shutter speed-priority AE, aperature-priority AE, and manual modes, the focusing point selection mode can be set to automatic or manual selection.
In the other picture taking modes, the automatic focusing point selection mode is set automatically.
