Who do you love? Your friends? Boyfriend/girlfriend? Family? That unknown someone whom you are waiting for?
God is the author of three kinds of love found in the Bible. There is phileo, love between family and close friends. There is eros, the intimate love that God has designed to be reserved for marriage. Last, there is agape, the love that God has for us, and longs for us to have for both Him and for each other.
As you dream of your future, ask God to build healthy relationships into your life. Ask Him for many phileo relationships that challenge and encourage you to love and serve Jesus. Ask Him to make you into the man or woman you should be for that person He intends for you to experience eros love with, in a godly marriage and home. Most importantly, pray for an agape relationship with your Creator that will direct every other relationship in your life.
Ask yourself these questions about all the friendships and dating relationships in your life:
1. Does this person help me grow closer to Jesus, or am I often having to choose what the Lord wants for me in spite of him or her?
2. If I was out of the picture, would this person continue to grow in the Lord, or are they just doing it for me?
Will you dare to be so in love with Jesus that you will let Him be the supreme object of your affection? Will you love Jesus above all other relationships in your life?
