Glenn's Top 5 songs of the year 2001...

1) Ash- "shining light"

When all the candles have burned in the night... this song stands out as the best of the year 2001. Released in the middle of the year (May 2001), this song redefines the term "relentless rock", as it stretches its unique melody for a quick 5+ minutes. They say time flies when you're having fun... and listening to this song affirms that adage.

2) Coldplay- "shiver"

Brits swooned to this track as early as January 2000, but we Flips get to marvel at this gem only by the latter half of 2001. The new torch-bearer of unrequited-love themes, "shiver" manages to tug the heartstrings and move the soul with its Jeff Buckley-esque melody.

3) A Perfect Circle- "3 libras"

Toss in a waltz beat, strings, a rumbling bass line, sweeping guitars and a psycho Maynard James Keenan, and what do you get? "3 libras", a tune devoted to loss and heartbreak, camouflaged by an angsty art-metal musical statement.

4) Lifehouse- "hanging by a moment"

I have yet to see someone who hasn't heard of this awesome song. Not one. This break-out hit for Lifehouse (who have also released the equally-good "Sick Cycle Carousel" a few months later) has struck a chord into the emotions of all the people who are "hanging by a moment"... ie EVERYONE.

5) Weezer- "hash pipe"

This song marks the return of the original geek-rock heroes, Weezer. Need I say more? (Watch out for its cool Sumo-video! Hehe)
