Macross Vs. Mewtwo?

Surprised? You can bet I was..

It all began when I was tracking down a little-known ROM known as Shattered Valkyrie; Macross. There seems to be very little to do with the actual series in the game, no plot to speak of other than a ship very accurately resembling the original Veritech fighters, and recognizable (although mis-named) characters.

Now, the names and lack of any in-between-stages plot continuity could probably be called Translation errors, the game was never released in the US, and I haven't the slightest idea why the ROM I picked up happened to be in English. But, along I go, blasting horde after horde of Zentradi drones, as well as entirely unrecognizable boss enemies that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual series. I was content to let it stay at that, until I come to the end of the game, inside some sort of biological-ship (I never saw the last of the Invid invasion, but I'm betting this has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the Macross series...) - and, the last boss, is MEWTWO!

Now, is that weird, or what?

I haven't actually done any checking into this deeper than pointing that out, and asking other friends as to what the end boss looks like, everyone responded the same. If anyone has any idea whatsoever as to what this thing is, besides being Mewtwo, tell me?
