Agot begins a new life
by Leah Salterio
When singer Agot Isidro walked down the aisle, she made sure her wedding would not be turned into a media circus. Hence, when the thirty-something Agot exchanged marriage vows last Oct. 7 with her boyfriend of two years, Manu Sandejas, it was in a very private ceremony in Laguna, away from the prying eyes of the public and the local media.
The wedding was held at the St. John Bosco Church at the Laguna Technopark in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, officiated by a priest who is a mutual friend of the couple.
Although there were 200 guests invited, very few were from show biz. In fact, the only principal sponsor from the business was Buboy Garrovillo of the Apo Hiking Society. Most of the members of the entourage and the guests were relatives of the couple.
Aga Muhlach, Agot's costar in the weekly ABS-CBN sitcom, "Oki Doki Doc," was cord sponsor with talent manager Girlie Rodis. Aga, however, came in late for the ceremony and simply caught up during the reception. Biboy Arboleda took his place during the wedding.
Manu's older brother, Paco, was the veil sponsor with his wife, TV host Christine Jacob. Tina and Jojo Isorena were the candle sponsors.
Panjee Gonzales-Lopez was the scripture reader.
Agot's older sister, Olive Isidro Cruz, was the maid of honor. Olive, who is a backup singer and owner of the music lounge Live at the Ridge along Katipunan Avenue, also gathered a choir composed of UP Concert Chorus members, who sang beautiful romantic tunes for the wedding.
At the reception, held at the Westgrove Club House also in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Acoustic Jive provided the music.
Agot is the youngest in the large Isidro brood and also the last one to get hitched. Before meeting Manu, she had been reluctant to get into another serious romance after getting into a number of failed relationships in the past, including one with actor Monsour del Rosario.
Manu is a copywriter at Lintas Advertising. They met in late 1998 and started dating even without a serious commitment. But after a couple of months, they decided to go serious.
When Agot walked down the aisle, Manu only had eyes for his bride who was radiant in a gown she herself designed and executed by Nyork.
Not a few who witnessed the ceremony observed that Agot was really a beautiful bride.
The couple had to postpone their honeymoon next month, when they will go on a Mediterranean cruise. But on the night of the wedding, they checked in at Peninsula Manila and went shopping at Glorietta the day after.
The other show-biz guests were Roderick Paulate, Rowell Santiago, Jim Paredes, Danny Javier and Melissa de Leon.
Megastar Sharon Cuneta, whom the bride backed up as a singer when Agot was just starting, had also been invited, but didn't make it to the event because of the death of her father, Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta.
