Music

My interest in music is driven by one single desire; to find music with
integrity. Usually this equates to music not seen on MTV or heard on
'alternative' radio stations. Therefore, my collection is viewed as
a bunch of obscure recordings, as I gather from everybody asking
where I here of these bands, groups, or people. Some of this is
purely geographic. Ask anybody from the United Kingdom who Pop Will
Eat Itself or Suede is, and you'll get a definite answer. But, around
here, the known figures in music are determined by the media which
is incensed with giving the people what they want, and that's not always
a good thing, especially when, in my opinion, most popular music (and
not just pop) is void of any real talent or merit.
As far as the various genres of music I enjoy go, I'm sure subscribers
of any one style will poke jest at the other styles. Each genre
has elements of integrity. I am amazed at the talent of country musicians to tap out some incredible guitar licks
as well as the ability of electronic artists such as Plaid to warp beats and fashion addictive tracks out of disparate pieces.
And now, my list of the stunning examples in different genres.
Electronic ambient: Boards of Canada: "Music Has The Right To Children"
Headphone breakbeats: Squarepusher: "Hard Normal Daddy"
Electronic pop: Garbage: "Version 2.0"
Electronic dance: Daft Punk: "Homework"
Industrial rock: Pop Will Eat Itself: "Dos Dedos Mis Amigos"
Alternative rock: Cracker: "Kerosene Hat"
Pop: Blur: "Parklife"
Country: Junior Brown: "Semi Crazy"
Experimental Folk Rock: Ween: "The Mollusk"
Video Game Soundtrack: "Final Fantasy Tactics"

Although not a huge literary buff, I have managed to read every Sherlock Holmes story ever printed. Other works I have thoroughly enjoyed include "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess, "UFO's JFK, and Elvis" by Richard Belzer, and books by Michael Crichton and Jim Marrs.
