To whom should they serve, for what reason. I have always believed that our Titles are "... camp in nature, but as serious as the needs of the Community..." This means many things to me. First it means that just because I am an Empress, I am not "really" above anyone, but I am expected to act accordingly and possess "Imperial Qualities" that will help others. Second, I feel that my servitude is to all of the Gay People, in all Empires. Dallas is my Home, it is my Empire, and I serve with Pride, but Kentucky has a very soft spot in my heart also. I was pleased to be asked to help obtain the Baronial Medallions for the adornment of the Louisville Barony. My Emperor, Maverick, and I share a common bond with the Bluegrass Empire and were more than happy to lend our support to the Louisville Barony. We are very honored to provide the symbols of office for the Cont/Conte and the Daphn/Daphne... It is our desire that with this contribution, the Courts of Kentucky and Texas further the longstanding bond and work together for a better Gay Community. Good Luck Louisville ! Serve your Community well, remember that YOUR Community is depending on you to help them stop the progression of the AID's virus, to stop oppression and hatred and to make today a better day. Kentucky is buried in snow? It is Thursday, February 5, 1998, and I am sitting in my living room watching Rosie after a sunny, snow-less day in Buffalo, New York, with 46 degree weather. I switch to the weather channel to see Lexington and Louisville appear on the tube. Wow...and they talk about Buffalo! I decide to call HMISM Elvin to see if it is true. Elvin reports that he cannot get his car out of the driveway and that Paul has been stranded at work. I still can't believe my ears and tell Elvin that I am planning to fly to Louisville to attend the Adornment of their first Barony! After a few hours arguing with USAir about high airfare, they agree to give me a bargain. I call Elvin on Friday, around noon, and tell him that I am on my way. My flight will arrive in "The Tundra" at 6:00 p.m. He tells me that the roads are now open, he has dug his car out and that He, Paul and Jackie Parish will be on the road to meet me at the hotel. Flying into Louisville, I notice snow all over the place. I begin to get homesick (not really) seeing the snow. Go figure...I travel South to hit snow when there is not a drop of the white stuff in Buffalo. I get to the hotel after hearing horror stories from the courtesy van driver and immediately see a handsome, hunky manager. He compliments me about my "vest" and I return the favor. After he "checks" me in, he states "If there is anything I can do to make your stay more enjoyable, let me know." Oh dear...for those of you who know me, that was the wrong thing to say. I go up to my room and find no ashtrays. I call and he brings them up with a gorgeous smile. He leaves and I fantasize, deciding to take a shower to freshen up. I find no big towels in my bathroom. I call down to the desk, he brings them up. I ask him what time he gets off work. He tells me that he has to work all night, but tomorrow is free. We chit-chat for a bit and I ask him where the bars are. He wants to know what I am looking for and I tell him, "someplace with pink triangles or rainbows would be nice." He returns a big smile and replies, "I was hoping you would say that." He leaves after we set up a date after the Adornment on Saturday. I shower, get in my pj's, and begin to watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, while waiting for my Lexington family to show up. Around 9:30 p.m., they show up and we immediately head out. What a sight those bars are. I have not seen bodies on men like this in a long time. The strippers at this one bar, Triangles, were FABU! We all remain shy as can be while they were flirting with us (yeah right) and tip them so gently. To make a long story short, the bars were great and we had a wonderful night. I go back to the hotel and meet a stranger that all of us had checked out when we were heading for the bars. We chat in the elevator, hallway, and in front of our rooms. He asks me in to his room for a drink. My...how time flew! The next thing I know it, it is morning and I hadn't been to my room since we left. I am sure you can read between the lines here! I love Louisville so far! Saturday, we all greet the incomers! We go shopping in the afternoon and return to our rooms to get ready for the adornment. It went off with a few glitches but I am impressed with the turnout. The ballroom was full of people ready to show their support for the new Barony of Louisville! It was a great atmosphere to be in. The entertainment was energetic and electricity was present. Baron David and Baroness Mother looked beautiful. The evening progressed and then off to the bars with everyone. My date, the hotel manager, showed up and we hit it off right away. The night was magic. Louisville sure has an active gay nightlife! We party all night long. Jackie shows up at the hotel room at 5 in the morning and is hungry. Paul, Elvin, and I get up and take here to the Steak and Shake. We eat out hearts out and return at 7:30 a.m. to go to bed! I am exhausted. Sunday is the day for departing. Everyone from Lexington and Cincinnati who were still at the hotel, meet for breakfast. We eat and everyone leaves me alone in Louisville. Well....not alone....you see, I have another date before I head to the airport with the hotel manager. How fun! Time flew bye and I am on my way back to balmy Buffalo. Thank you Lexington and Louisville for a great weekend I shall never forget! I can't wait to return for The Derby and Lexington's Coronation. Hugs and kisses, Gladys Over -Sister to HMISM Elvin Harkins -Miss Gay Buffalo Paramount 1998-99 -Grand Dutchess, Imperial Court of Buffalo =================================== RED HOT VALENTINE SHOW BENEFITS NORTHERN KENTUCKY Everyone must have had a heart of gold at the AVNK Red Hot Valentine Show at the Subway, in Cincinnati. By the time the night was over, over $860.00 was raised for AIDS Volunteers of Northern Kentucky. Sponsored by the Imperial Sovereign Queen City Court of the Buckeye Empire, and attended by the Royal Sovereign Imperial Court of All Kentucky, the benefit featured a cavalcade of entertainers from both Cincinnati & Lexington. Imperial Crown Princess 6 Tamika and Sam Clemons emceed the Valentine's Day show. Featured performers included Empress & Emperor 7 of Cincinnati Oxana daBull & Jeff Stemmer, Emperor 16 of Kentucky Elvin Harkins, Empress 6 of Cincinnati Christina Blake, Emperor 15 of Kentucky Paul Johnson, Imperial Crown Prince 7 of Cincinnati Bob Bowles & Empress 2, 13 & 14 of Kentucky Jacqueline Parrish. Also performing, on behalf of the Kentucky Court was the new "Miss Valentine" Jordan Taylor, who was crowned just three days before the show. This was the second of two benefits for AVNK. Last November, Kentucky & Cincinnati joined forces to present the Toyland Show at Shooters. ========================================= EMPRESS XV NATALIE GAYE RECIPIENT OF JOSE HONOR The Royal Sovereign Imperial Court of All Kentucky is pleased to announce that Empress XV Natalie Gaye will be the recipient of the distinguished Jose Honor. The Jose Honors were created by the founder of the International Imperial Court System, Jose Sarria, in an effort to recognize members of the Court system across the country who have made significant contributions to their communities, their individual Courts, and the International Court System as a whole. In presenting this award to Natalie, the Widow Norton is recognizing the many years of dedicated service that Natalie has provided the Lexington community. Natalie's community service began when she became a member of the Board of Directors of Aids Volunteers of Lexington in the early 1990's and has not stopped since. Natalie was instrumental is orchestrating highly successful benefits for AVOL which involved female impersonators from throughout the state. As a member of the show-cast at The Bar Complex during this time, Natalie always donated the proceeds from at least one of her numbers to AIDS causes each time she worked. Perhaps her most significant contribution to the community came when she decided to run for Empress of the RSIC of All Kentucky in 1996. Once elected, Natalie revitalized an organization that had been ineffective for several years prior to her reign. Her goals of reestablishing the community s awareness of the Court were far surpassed as over $10,000 was raised to help such charities as the Fayette County AIDS Medication Fund, AVOL, and the YWCA Spouse Abuse Center. It was her leadership as Empress that has allowed the RSIC of All Kentucky to continue to thrive as a major contributor to charitable causes throughout the Bluegrass. Though Natalie stepped down as Empress XV on June 1, 1997 her work with the Court has continued as member of the Board of Directors of the RSIC of All Kentucky. Natalie also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Gay and Lesbian Services Organization, and was also recently recognized for her charitable contributions to the area by being named Empress VII 1/2 of Cincinnati. Jose Sarria, the Widow Norton, will present the Jose Honor to Natalie on March 26 in New York City in an awards banquet held in conjunction with "The Night of A Thousand Gowns". ============================================ CORONATION 17 PLANNED FOR RADISSON "In Their Majesties Secret Service: An Evening of Intrigue at the Royal Masquerade Ball June 7, 1998 - Watch for it!! ============================================ EMPEROR, EMPRESS AND COUNCIL APPLICATION DEADLINE Candidates for Emperor, Empress and Council must apply by March 30.
