Promises Remembered - Final Script
by Robin

COMING MONDAY, 20 OCTOBER 2003:

Sunset over Hogwarts.

VO--JAMES: It's getting dark, now. Darker than I would have thought possible.

Darkness falls, sweep over the Forbidden Forest. There are shadows lurking in the dark, creeping towards the school.

VO--JAMES: The war has three sides, now.

The Riddle House is a burnt-out shell. Aurors and Death Eaters battle in the ruins.

VO--JAMES: Those with us.

Godrics Hollow with the Dark Mark high in the sky.

VO--JAMES: Those against us.

Shadowy figures stride through Azkaban.

VO--JAMES: And those who fear too much to fight.

Hogsmeade: above house after house, the Dark Mark flashes into the night. Dementors float down a non-descript and perfectly normal street.

THERE COMES A TIME WHEN ALL HOPE FADES TO BLACK . . .

Mundungus Fletcher sits alone at a desk, his head in his hands. He stays that way for a long moment, then slowly lifts a quill and begins to write.

The Hogwarts Dungeon is no longer empty. The door is closed, but screams echo through the stone hallway. Two Dementors suddenly drift towards the dungeon entrance, shifting hungrily as the screams continue.

Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Fred, and George rush through the Forbidden Forest. All are dirty; Harry, Ginny, and George are bleeding from minor wounds. They crash through the underbrush, not caring how much noise they make. Ginny glances back, and her eyes widen.

GINNY: They are coming.

WHEN NOTHING IS LEFT BUT THE HEART WITHIN YOU . . .

A shadowy figure kneels at Voldemorts feet. Fire flickers in the background, and the Death Eaters face cannot be seen.

DEATH EATER: There is a prophecy, My Lord . . .

Remus Lupin is standing in the window of the headmaster's office. The landscape outside the castle is grim: a storm is rising, dark and forebodingand beyond Hogwarts' locked gates, Death Eaters await.

Severus Snape comes to his side.

SNAPE: I'm going to have to betray you.

REMUS: I know.

The wind howls, and Snape steps back, his features tight.

TONKS: You can't just waltz in here and ruin my life!

Andromeda Tonks glares at Sirius Black as he sits at her kitchen table. Her eyes are furious, but his voice is very quiet.

SIRIUS: I'm not trying to ruin your life. Only to tell you the truth.

She straightens, and points at the door, her voice cold.

TONKS: Get out!

Sirius stands, but Ted Tonks suddenly intervenes.

TED: He's right, Droma. We can't hide any more.

Cornelius Fudge stares down a wheelchair bound James Potter.

FUDGE: Are you mad? Take the offer while you can!

JAMES: No.

FUDGE: This is our only chance! How many more have to die before

JAMES: I will not surrender.

FUDGE: But we can't possibly win! And you're not Albus Dumbledore, to dictate the path of our world!

JAMES: I don't have to be Dumbledore to know that we can't give in. We'll fight thisto the end.

SIRIUS: Looks like it's just you and me, Peter.

Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Black sit in a stone walled room. Peter nods uneasily; his hands are shaking. But Sirius continues with a grim smile.

SIRIUS: Then it's time for Wormtail and Padfoot to strike again. Call it the Marauders' Revenge.

AND WHEN FATE FALLS UPON THE STRENGTH OF FOUR FRIENDS

Arthur and Bill Weasley stand in the entrance to a dark passageway. The only light is that of the full moon.

ARTHUR: This is it, then. And Merlin save us if they fail.

Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange walk in the shadow of a towering statue of Salazar Slytherin.

VOLDEMORT: Bring me the werewolf, Bella. I want answers.

THEY NEVER ASKED

Peter Pettigrew pulls an unconscious James Potter from a pile of rubble.

FOR THE FRIENDSHIP THEY GAINED

Peter stands, wand in hand, facing an unknown threat.

THEY NEVER EXPECTED

Sirius Black holds a lighted wand aloft, face to face with a snarling werewolf.

FOR THE PRICE TO BE SO GREAT

The wolf crouches low and prepares to attack.

YET THEY WILL STAND

Remus, Sirius, and Peter crouch in a darkened room.

TOGETHER UNTIL THE END

SIRIUS: Now!

They all leap forward.

FRIENDS

BROTHERS

MARAUDERS

One by one, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter Apparate onto a windswept field. The wind is howling.

THE LAST LINE OF DEFENSE

Thunder rolls, and they step forward. Side by side, the Marauders walk.

VO--SIRIUS: Let the Darkness Come.
