She had rich auburn brown hair and her eyes were shaded by dark glasses. She scanned the area looking for somebody... "Daddy!!"she exclaimed when she saw a man waving in the crowd. The man was in his late 40's.Almost 50 yeas of age.He had a kind smile and had silver white hair.His build still lean and strong. He still looked as handsome as he was when he was 27 years old.It'd been 22 years ago.... His name,Nephrite Patson...he'd come to greet his only child,Makoto... "Hello,Mako..."hugged her father. "Daddy!!I've missed you!!"cried Makoto as she cried into her father's arms. Another man came following her. "Oh,Daddy...I want you to meet my fiancé,Freddie Mayson.Freddie,this is my father."introduced Makoto. "Pleased to meet you Mr Patson."greeted Freddie respectfully. "Good to meet you son."said Mr Patson."C'mon...both of you must be tired." said Mr Patson pushing them towards the car. Makoto gave a yawn..."Oh,indeed Daddy.."yawned Makoto. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next day... Serene Shields rubbed her eyes...*Who could be calling at this hour??* she wondered. When she opened the door,Serene was shocked.."Mako??"croaked Serene slightly. "Hi Serene...how are you??"asked Makoto smiling brightly. "Fine...come in!!!It's been so long."said Serene. "Serene,honey...who's at the....door..."a look of surprise registering on Damian's face. "Makoto!!"he exclaimed in surprise. "Hi Damian...how've you been??"asked Makoto. Damian smiled."Very well...especially since Sere gave birth to the twins." laughed Damian. Makoto's face brightened at the word..."Twins??"she asked. Serene smiled...heading into a room,followed by Damian. Serene brought out a sleeping baby girl with tufts of silvery blond hair. "Meet Reeni."smiled Serene kissing her sleeping 1 year old slightly. "And,meet her fussy twin brother,Dylan."drawled Damian lazily. "Oh,they're both practically adorable!!!"squealed Makoto slightly. "They are...aren't they..."whispered Serene staring lovingly at her children. Makoto brushed a tear away..such a picture perfect family...she almost envied them... "I'll call everyon and invite them!!"exclaimed Serene suddenly. Makoto's heart nearly lurched...."Everyone??"asked Makoto playing with her engagement ring. Serene frowned..."Well...maybe not everyone...Amelia is at a medical convention and Ken is on a business trip."said Serene. Makoto breathed a sigh of relief."Tonight?"asked Makoto. Serene nodded. "Do you mind if I bring my fiancé along??"asked Makoto. "Fiancé??"questioned Serene. Makoto bit her lip and nodded.. "You never told us.."said Damian."Who's he??" "Freddie Mayson."replied Makoto. "So.....how's everybody??"asked Makoto. Serene smiled."Everybody's fine!!Everyone in our group is married or going to get married!!Well...except Ken that is.."said Serene. "How come?"asked Makoto curiously. "Oh,..he says he's too busy and stuff like that..he's so caught up in work now a days...I pity him.."said Damian playing with an awake Dylan. "Mako...it's so wonderful to see you again!!"said Mina hugging her friend. "It's great to see you and Andy too!!"replied Makoto. "You must be Freddie."said Mina turning to the man beside her..."I'm Mina Rhineheart."said Mina. "Nice to meet you."said Freddie bored. Mina's brow creased slightly. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Later.... Freddie stifled a yawn.."Makoto..lets leave this place.."he whispered in her ear. Makoto stared at him."What??"she asked quietly. "Let's leave...this place is a bore.."he murmured into her ear. Makoto gave a gasp..."How dare you say that.."she whispered in a hushed tone. "Let's take this outside...I just might yell a bit..."bit out Makoto. They stepped out into the gardens... "Your friends are a bore..."said Freddie matter-of-factly. Makoto was outraged.Her anger seething..."Freddie Mayson...how can you say that...these are my friends..and when Kitty drolls on with her friends, you don't seem bored.."accused Makoto angrily. "C'mon...lets go back.."drawled Freddie lazily. "Will not.."said Makoto firmly. "Makoto...what's wrong with you...You were never like this in Europe.I can tell that America has a bad effect on you..such a dull place.." Makoto gave a gasp... "You cold callous-...America is my homeland!!And I have decided not to be trodded on by you!!"hissed Makoto. "Your friends are a bad influence.."said Freddie frowning. "JERK...You leave my friends out of this..." "Whatever...I'm not staying...this place is a bore.."he said walking away. Makoto had the urge to beat her fiancé...when he was out of sight... Makoto fell to the ground crying...her body shaked with sobs. "Mako??"came a voice. "Funny...Sere called my jet phone and said I had to come back."answered Ken staring at her. *She's so beautiful...a young woman now...* "Oh...I'm sorry you couldn't meet my fiancé...he...just left."said Makoto lamely. "It's alright...I'll meet him some other day."said Ken sadly. "So...what have you been up to??"asked Makoto. "Oh...travelling...business...nothing much...same old things."replied Ken."When you getting married?"asked Ken. "Three weeks from now..."admitted Makoto. "Freddie...I want you to meet my best friend,"*and long time crush* she thought to herself.."Ken Blake." Freddie eyed Ken,Ken eyed Freddie...each sizing each other up... "Hello."said Ken cooly.He didn't like him.... "Hello.."replied Freddie. "Makoto..I'm going to the airport to meet Kitty..."said Freddie suddenly. "She's coming??"asked Makoto surprised. Freddie merely nodded and got in the car. Ken eyed the man icily...what did Mako see in the creep?? "Nice man.."said Ken sarcastically. Makoto said nothing as she watched her fiancé drive off... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Later that day... Makoto walked down the beach...deep in thought...Once...she and Freddie had enjoyed each others company...however now he seemed cold and icy... changing so much...Makoto didn't know him anymore... Ken...coming back to America had brought back so may old and cherished memories... ~FLASHBACKS~ "Hey guys,I'd like you to meet Makoto Patson."said Ken to a bunch of girls and boys who were talking. ~~~~~~~~ "I heard you were new here...so I thought I'd come and say hello to you...my name is Ken Blake the III...."he said smiling. ~~~~~~~~ "Ken,we'll be friends forever right??"asked a 14-year old Makoto. "Right!!I'll never forget you,where ever you are!!"replied a 14-year old Ken enthusiastically. ~~~~~~~~ "Is that your dream??To be become a designer??"asked Mina. Makoto nodded happily."Yes it is!!!" ~~~~~~~~ Makoto waved goodbye to her friends as she began to depart.... ~~~~~~~~ Makoto watched as land grew smaller and smaller as the plane ascended higher and higher into the sky..... A tiny tear trickled down her cheek...disappearing into the material of her blouse.. ~END FLASHBACKS~ Makoto st down on the sandy bay...the sound of the waves hitting the breakers..it had always calmed her...even when she found out her mother had died giving life to her... ~FLASHBACK~ "Daddy??How come other people have mommy's and I don't??"asked a 6 year- old Makoto. "Mommy's in a place far far away Makoto..." "Didn't Mommy like me?"asked a sad Makoto. "Don't be silly...Listen to me...your mommy loved you very much...but she had to leave...when you're older..I'll tell you all about it..."said her father kissing her head. They watched as the sun sank from the sky... ~END FLASHBACK~ Makoto heard the seabirds calling to each other...the waves hitting the beach and the warm rays of the setting sun that threw a beautiful fiery colour over everything as it sank lower into the ocean.... Makoto loved the ocean smell...but she loved the smell of oak and pine mixed with the smell after a rainfall...that would always remind her of her mother... "Hi Mako..What are you doing??"asked a voice. Her eyes snapped wide open...."Ken!!"exclaimed Makoto. "Thinking of your mother??"asked Ken curiously. Makoto smiled slightly and nodded..Ken always knew what she was thinking. *He's so handsome...I just wish I had told him how I felt before I left for Europe...4 years ago..* "I miss her...even if I never met her."said Makoto. "Well...I'm sure she misses you just as much..."he said sitting next to her putting an arm around her. Makoto blushed slightly. "I just feel so lonely sometimes.."admitted Makoto. "Don't ever...I'm always here for you...so is everybody else.."said Ken squeezing her shoulder slightly. Makoto smiled gratefully and rested her head on his shoulder... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That night... "Where have YOU been??"asked Freddie when she returned to her father's house.Her father was asleep. "The beach...Oh...Kitty..."said Makoto. Kitty was looking at her coldly.Makoto just couldn't figure it out... only a year ago..they were so warm and friendly.Suddenly when Freddie had proposed...months later,both had become cold. "We saw you with that...Ken is it??"asked Freddie. "So...??He's my friend."said Makoto angrily. "I don't want you seeing him."said Freddie. "You can't stop me...you're not my keeper."replied Makoto icily.Adding to her protest,a scathing remark... "Besides...you couldn't have been bored...KITTY...was here to accompany YOU..."bit out Makoto as she stared at her once best room mate,with a cold stare. Kitty gasped. Freddie grabbed her arm..."Shut up...leave Kitty out of this..I'm your fiancé!!"he exclaimed. Makoto returned his glare... "Well...you certainly DON'T act like one...I'm your fianceé." "Well then play the part like a good little girl!!"grounded Freddie. Makoto gasped.Before she knew it,her hand had come up and slapped Freddie with a hard stroke. "I-I..I'm sorry..."she stuttered. Kitty was bending over Freddie. "Makoto!!How could you do that??"shouted Kitty accusingly. Makoto ran upstairs to her room and slammed the door.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next day... "Oh,Ray...we've been here a week and we're already constantly fighting. Sure..we've had fights before but I actually slapped him this time.Last nights had to be the worst..."sobbed Makoto. "No way...he'd been bossing you..Never let anybody do that!You were right to slap the jerk...I'd have done the same."said Ray angrily. "Only 2 weeks left before the wedding...I should be excited...but I'm not. I feel I'm making the biggest mistake of my life..I still...ove Ken."said Makoto shakily. "Then you should tell him."said Ray. "But I don't want to ruin our friendship.."admitted Makoto. "Oh Mako...I think Ken feels the same way..."said Ray. Makoto looked up. "Tell him...Mako.."urged Raye. Her mother had brilliant ememrald eyes.. Makoto had her mother's eyes and looks but she had her father's hair... "Oh...mother...what do I do???Send me a sign...do I marry Freddie or do I tell Ken about my love for him and take my chances...??"she asked the photo. Silence...... "Miss Patson??A bouquet for you..."said a delvery man. "Thank you.."said Makoto taking the bouquet. Closing the door,Makoto sniffed at the white lilies...one of her favourite flowers... "Who could have sent these???"wondered Makoto picking up the envelope that had come with the bouquet... Dear Mako, I'm sorry to inform you I will not be coming to your wedding...I'm very sorry if I disappointed you... Guess I'm just a coward...It'd be too painful to see you get married to the creep.. Yeah...I'm finally admiting I loved you since we were in high school... still do...But I'm still a coward for not telling you face to face. It's easier this way.Guess it's too late huh?? I wish you all the best.Have a happy marriage and a happy life... I'll always be here if you need me... Makoto took a deep breath as she remembered Ken's letter...her father was there to greet her to escort her down the aisle... "Darling..you look beautiful."said Mr Patson. "Thanks Daddy.."sniffled Makoto. Makoto saw through her veil,Freddie standing at the end of the aisle waiting...rather impatiently I might add... Makoto joined Freddie in front of the altar... The ceremony began.... "Do you...Freddie Mayson,take Makoto Patson to be your lawful wedded wife, To cherish, In sickness and in health, For richer or poorer..." (Note:I'll skip this junk..) "I do."said Freddie sternly. "Do you..Makoto Patson,take Freddie Mayson to be your lawful....blah blah blah... Evrybody's eyes was on the bride...Makoto looked at the priest... "No.."she said firmly. Horrified gasps came from the people...Makoto could see Freddie was enraged and Kitty was staring at her as if she'd grown another head... Makoto lifted her veil.. "Makoto!!What are you talking about??!!"he shouted. "Just what I said...I'm not marrying you."said Makoto firmly. "Wha??Why??" "You're not the man I love and second,you're not the Freddie I knew."said Makoto. "It's that Ken isn't it!!??" "And what if it is??"challenged Makoto."I don't care...I'm not going to let you trod all over me Freddie Mayson..and if you think I'm the devoted good little understanding person while you flirt with Kitty,you're damn hell wrong!!"shouted Makoto. Kitty gasped acting scandalized. Ray just smiled. "Now listen here.." "No,Freddie..You listen,whats the point of marrying YOU??We'd only fight all the time!!So..it's better we don't!!"exclaimed Makoto. "What's HE got I don't??" "Do you really want me to answer that??Frankly,I think he's worth a dozen of you,two-faced.."bit Makoto. "Now you just wait a second..you.."cried Kitty. "Ken!!!"shouted a voice. Ken stopped..he thought he'd heard someone call his name...Impossible... nobody knew he was down here... "Ken!!" Ken turned..."Mako??"he asked as he saw her running towards him still wearing her white wedding gown. "Ken!!"shouted Mako breathlessly. "Mako??What are YOU doing here??Shouldn't you be at the church??"asked Ken in disbelief... "I didn't get married Ken."stated Makoto. "Now I KNOW I'm dreaming..."he said aloud. Makoto pinched him. "Ow...What was that for???" "IS this a dream??"asked Makoto. Ken rubbed his arm where Mako had pinched him."Errr...No.."he admitted. Makoto laughed and threw her hands around his neck. This surprised Ken..."Mako??"he choked out. "I love you..."she whispered. Ken stared down at the young woman in his arms...speechless... "I-I...oh Mako!!"he said hugging her tightly.He picked her up and swung her around,both laughing....their laughter echoing throughout the beach. "Marry me.."whispered Ken. Makoto threw her arms around his neck not wanting to let go..."Of course!! A young baby girl and boy were born...Makoto Patson Blake smiled down at both children. "I want to name our daughter after my mother.."said Mako to her husband. "Say Lita...Do you think there's any possible way,our ancestors,knew each other once long ago??"asked Marcus,her brother. Lita grinned."I doubt it brother...such a coincedence could never happen."
