"Sere??"called Rei. Walking in further,Rei Hino found Serenity's body sprawled out on the floor,unconscious. "SERE!!!"shouted Rei panicking. Rushing to her friend's side,Rei checked her pulse...it was there,but why was it racing??? "Sere???Are you alright??Can you hear me??"shouted Rei,slapping her face lightly."Come on girl....don't scare me."pleaded Rei. No response... Slowly lifting her up,Rei supported her friend's weight towards the couch. Plopping her down on the couch,Rei continued to try to wake her unconscious body.However,her mind was far far away. ~SERENITY'S MIND~ *Where am I???*asked Serenity.She saw broken memories of herself.Familiar yet,not familiar. ~FLASHBACK~ "Serenity!!You have only been here for a year and you are as good as me!! And I am a whole year your senior!!You are truly a fast learner."smiled Esmeraude. "As good???"asked Serenity raising an eyebrow. Esmeraude smirked."Well of course." Serenity delivered a swift kick to the gut.Causing Esmeraude to lose her balance,landing in the mud. "Pinned you."smiled Serenity maliciously. Esmeraude laughed."I stand...no,lie corrected!!" "She's unconscious and I can't wake her up!!Her pulse is racing!!"shouted Rei. "Keep trying to wake her,Rei.We're coming."said Bruche. With that,Rei heard the phone replaced in it's holder with a click. "Oh Serenity...."sobbed Rei softly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Malachite and the rest were now back at the manor,from the hospital. Nephlite had been overjoyed with their return.Endymion however,could not shake the feeling of doom.Granted that he missed his sister very much. Malachite noticed Endymion's faraway look.He'd seen it before.... when Endymion's parents had passed away,his best friend Motoki Furuhata died in a car accident. Endymion looked up.Malachite had a hand on his shoulder and was looking down at him sympatheticly. "I'm alright,Malachite."said Endymion.He missed Ami,he missed Serenity... "How is she???"asked Ami worried. "I don't know..."whispered Rei. Checking her pulse,Coan shook her head."I don't know what's happening to her. "She might be going into shock."suggested Ami. "We don't know for sure.She should be fine already!!All her injuries were already healed."said Bruche. "Oh lord...what's going on??"whispered Coan. ~Serenity's mind~ "I am who I am,Serenity...I am-"began the woman Serenity was staring at. "-Myself."gasped Serenity. "That's right.It's time to remember Sere,you can't run away forever.You are who you are,as I am."said her conscience.She was the mirror image to Serenity.Except,she was pure. Serenity awoke.She blinked once.Blinked twice.Turning her sore head,she noticed Rei,Coan,Bruche and ....AMI??? Trying to sit up,her body felt stiff and sore.Rubbing the back of her head,Serenity wondered what had happened. Ami was the first to wake,hearing a groan. "Mmmm....Sere??"mumbled Ami opening her eyes. "Ami,what are YOU doing here???"asked Serenity. "Sere??"came three drowsy voices. Serenity smiled."I'm alright,Rei...I remember."whispered Serenity. Rei's eyes shot wide open.The she smiled,hugging her friend. "Oh Sere!!"sobbed Rei. Serenity merely smiled. Suddenly a thought struck her head. "Endymion!!"exclaimed Serenity. "He's alright,he's alive,Sere...you don't have to-" "No no no...you don't understand!!I know who's trying to kill him!!" shouted Serenity,her aqua eyes wide. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ami's eyes widened at the news. "WHO Sere???WHO???Who's trying to kill my brother???"shouted Ami. Serenity squeezed her eyes shut.A single tear trickled down her cheek. "It's Seijuurou Ginga."whispered Serenity. Ami's mouth opened and shut. "Natsumi Ginga's brother??"asked Rei confused."What grudge does HE have with Endymion Chiba???" A thought struck Ami. "I believe it has to do with Natsumi.Seijuurou never approved of Endy. He hates my brother.But tolerated him because of Natsumi.Now,he might want him out of his sister's life forever." "A possibility."concured Bruche."But no evidence and it is not our place as Katana assassins to interfere."pointed out Bruche. "And you are still our prisoner."said Coan. "NO!!"shouted Serenity."I won't allow you to take Ami back to the headquarters."grounded out Serenity. "That's not your descision to make....We ARE leaving,whether you like it or not."said Coan firmly. Taking hold of Ami,the two Ayakashi sisters left,leaving Serenity sitting on the couch with Rei by her side. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That evening.....(after Serenity was well rested.) "They are right you know."whispered Rei sadly. "No they're not." "Sere....why must you keep doing this.You've changed...you know the lives we lead.You knew the sacrifices we had to make.You tought me to embrace the teachings of the Katana.And now you're turning your back on them????"asked Rei. "I....I'm sorry Rei.Maybe,somewhere along the way,I changed.Maybe you will too.But I've made up my mind and I'm leaving the clan."said Serenity calmly as she got up and walked towards the door. "Serenity....."began Rei. "Rei,love....changes everything.Farewell,dear friend." With that,the apartment door closed with a click,leaving the the occupant of the house,Rei Hino to remember those words. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serenity entered the Kage Corp building.Nobody looked at her.If someone recognized her,they didn't acknowledge it. Entering the elevator,nobody followed.The people in the building weren't nosy.If they were,they would have been fired a long time ago. Entering the caverns,Serenity strode surely and confidently.The younger assassins gave way as she held a gleaming sword in her hand which she had probably taken from the entry to the caverns. Walking towards the deepest recesses of the cavern,Serenity found Esmeraude,Ami and the Ayakashi sisters. "Serenity???"came Esmeraude's voice."What are YOU doing-"she began "Let Ami go,Esmeraude."said Serenity fiercely. "You know I won't-"began Esmeraude. Serenity pointed the gleaming blade at her throat.Her blue eyes burning like blue fire. "Do IT....NOW."emphasized Serenity as she inched the sword closer to Esmeraude's jugular. The Ayakashi sisters were surprised,reaching for their swords.... "Don't even think of it.Or I will NOT hesitate to kill all of you.Hands, AWAY from the swords,my friends."gritted out Serenity steely. "No...you wouldn't."acknowledged Pattsu sadly. Ami walked towards Serenity. "Serenity,don't do this.Please..."pleaded Amy putting a hand on Serenity's wrist.Her blue eyes pleading. "I'm not doing this for you....I'm doing it for me."bit out Serenity. "I got you involved into this bloody mess." "I don't care...I just don't want you to spill anymore blood.Especially not the blood of your friends."whispered Ami. Serenity closed her eyes sadly. "That's the whole point.Assassins weren't meant to HAVE any."sighed Serenity. "You are correct Serenity.You truly embraced all the concepts of being an assassin.Embraced the salvation of the Katana.But now it seems,you have forgotten them."came a voice. "Dimando..."whispered Serenity,her eyes going wide. "Well,Usa???"asked Dimando."HAVE you forgotten them???" "DO NOT...CALL...ME...Usa.And I have NOT forgotten.Forgetting them would be easier.No....I am DENYING them!!I deny the salvation you offer me!!" shouted Serenity."I am LEAVING the clan!!!" Gasps came from everywhere.No one had ever spoken about leaving the assassin clan before. Dimando's purple eyes narrowed. "You can never leave the clan,Usa....never."muttered Dimando,his fists clenching. "SEIZE HER!!"commanded Dimando. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Somewhere else.... Rei stood alone.Once again at the fountain.She had ran out after Serenity left the apartment. Staring at the water once more....her face looked pale and confused.Her shoulders felt heavy as if a burden had been placed on them and she felt as if her heart had gone cold. *Can love really change everything???*wondered Rei. The image of the girl with dark flowing hair appeared in the water again. *Was that her??Did she once really look like that??So happy??So carefree?? So innocent....so young and naïve.Was it really her???Before she became this grown-up serious looking raven haired beauty....* *God help me...* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Many young assassins rushed to apprehend the assassin turn-coat.But failed.Serenity was in good health and managed to keep the young inexperienced assassins at bay.Especially since the Ayakashi sisters and Esmeraude were not attacking. Dimando's face was a mask of anger.Not only had the woman he loved give her heart to another but now she was leaving as well....he could not allow that.Picking up a fallen sword,he jumped into the fight as well.That was when everybody else stopped and watched as Dimando Kageno faced off Serenity Tsukino. "Usa,you are making a terrible mistake.Cease your foolishness at once. Why deny your nature?You were born to run wild on the rooftops and reach for the stars in the sky.You know you love the adventure and the adrenaline rush."said Dimando. "I may,but I've changed."answered Serenity as they cirled each other in a dance of death. "You would give your life for that fool Endymion!!What does he have that I don't??"gritted Dimando angrily. "Nothing.Except that you are not him and you are like a brother to me..." sighed Serenity."The will to love somebody with hopeless abandon,pure and simple.Able to love without regrets.That is something that would change a person,Diman-chan....and I HAVE changed because I have learned to love that way.I'm sorry....but you deserve someone better than me." With that,there were no more words except the sound of clashing swords. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Esmeraude watched as Serenity did battle with Dimando.She knew,Serenity was still not as good as Dimando.Dimando was sure to win.And she was right. In a matter of minutes,Dimando had Serenity's blade on the floor with his own blade at her neck. Memories surfaced to Esmeraude Midori's mind.Memories she would have rather stayed buried in a forgotten dark corner of her mind. ~FLASHBACK~ "You are a good friend,Esmeraude."smiled Serenity. @@@ "Rubasu IS a cute one isn't he??"teased Serenity. Esmeraude blushed a bright red. @@@ "You should stop your foolishness before it hurts you,Esmer-chan.Don't fall in love with Rubasu."warned Serenity. "It is never foolish to love someone."contradicted Esmeraude. "But when you're an assassin....it is."pointed out Serenity. "Serenity...please don't say anything anymore.I've made up my mind.I love Rubasu,and maybe one day you'll experience what I know....and maybe then,you'll finally understand what it means to fall in love." @@@ "They know I killed Setsuna,Esmer-chan....Lord Dimando will be hunting to punish me."sighed Rubasu."Whatever happens,don't get involved." "But,Ru-chan!I had a part in the assassination!If they catch you,you'll be killed!I can't bear that!!"cried Esmeraude. Rubasu silenced her... "Shhh....be silent my love.Let ME take the blame.I don't want you to get hurt."whispered Rubasu. Tears fell from Esmeraude's green eyes. "But I do not want to lose you,Ru-chan."sobbed Esmeraude as she hugged Rubasu tightly,her face buried in his chest. Rubasu looked down at her sadly,his hands holding her.Calming her. @@@ Esmeraude and Rubasu exited the cavern through the back entrance which led to a dark and silent park. "Ru-chan,I love you..."whispered Esmeraude. Rubasu leaned down and kissed her.But the kiss was broken when he pinched a nerve at the back of her neck,effectively knocking her out. "I love you too..."whispered Rubasu as a tear fell from his eye. ~END FLASHBACK~ Dimando brought his hand back and plunged it straight towards Serenity Tsukino's body..Serenity squeezed her eyes shut,hoping death would claim her swiftly and painlessly. But,nothing came....opening her eyes,she saw a body in front of her, Dimando's blade piercing her stomach. It was Esmeraude!! Dimando's eyes hardened.Pulling the sword,it dropped to the ground while his hand fell to his side as Esmeraude fell.... "ESMERAUDE!!!"screamed Serenity as she caught the limp body. Esmeraude's green eyes were filled with unshed tears,blood streaming from her wound. "Esmeraude???Why did you do that???"asked Serenity,her eyes beginning to water. "I know what it is like to fall in love,and I finally remembered...." smiled Esmeraude."That I was never angry at you.....but at myself." Tears flowed down Serenity's face as she stared at her friend,who was once her enemy,bestfriend and comrade all together. "Esmer-chan...."sobbed Serenity. "All these years.....I was mistaken.I blamed you,for Ru-chan's death, when it was always my fault."rasped Esmeraude. "No,no!!!It wasn't your fault.You're going to be alright!!Don't die!!I was never angry at you for blaming me!!Don't die!!"cried Serenity. "It doesn't matter now,because....he and I will and can finally be together,be happy Serenity.Save your Endymion."smiled Esmeraude. With that,her eyes closed and her head rolled to the side.Esmeraude Midori was dead. "ESMER-CHAN!!!!!"shouted Serenity as more tears flowed down her face unchecked. The Ayakashi sisters wiped tears from their eyes for the loss of their comrade who they had once been spiteful to...and who had once been,their friend when they trained in Kanagawa,all those years ago. Serenity layed Esmeraude down and got up.Her eyes were dead.She stared at the still Dimando. Taking hold of Ami who was stunned at Esmeraude's death,Serenity slipped out of the cavern. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serenity held a tight grip on Ami's wrist pulling her out of the building and dragging her to her car. Ami was too shocked and her legs felt like lead.Sitting in the front passenger seat,Ami hugged herself as Serenity drove. Serenity glanced at Ami,whose face was pale and body shaking. "Are you alright??"asked Serenity. "He killed her...He KILLED her...Oh god..he killed her."sobbed Ami shaking. "Yes..he killed her."replied Serenity grimly. Ami stared at Serenity's profile with teary eyes.Her face betrayed no emotion,nothing to show that she grieved the loss of the woman who had died, her eyes...like ice.She hadn't shed a single tear. "You do have one don't you??"asked Ami. Serenity's eyes snapped to her. "One what??!" "A heart." "Of course I do!!"exclaimed Serenity her features hardening."If I didn't, I'd never been the idiot to fall in love.I'd still be a Katana." Ami bit her lip. "Y-You don't look like you have a heart.How can you look so calm wh-when somebody just d-died.It's as if...as if...you're able to just switch your emotions off." "If you knew how much I wanted that to be true,you'd be shocked.But I've seen people killed and I've killed before.."said Serenity. "Go...Dimando would have sent people after me."said Serenity. "Wha-Where will you go??Don't you want to see Endy?"exclaimed Ami. "No.I have to go...the others will be hunting for me.They won't allow me to get away...I know too much that could destroy the clan."sighed Serenity. "But,that means they will kill you!!!"exclaimed Ami. Serenity nodded sadly."I will finally come full circle then." "Sere,no-"began Ami,but Serenity had already sped away leaving Ami behind in the dust... "Miss Chiba is back!!Miss Chiba is back!!"shouted his housekeeper who was running about happily like a mother hen who knows her chick has hatched. Jumping to his feet,he couldn't believe his ears.*Ami is back???!!* "Ami is back??"Endymion questioned the housekeeper. The woman nodded happily and eagerly. Rushng out of his study,Endymion nearly knocked over his butler. "Ami!!"exclaimed Endymion. "Endy??" "You're back!!"he cried enveloping his sister in a hug.A million questions ran through his head.*Why?When?What happened?But the only question he asked was...How? "How did you escape??Jadeite said you were taken by the assassins!!" "Serenity helped me."stated Ami quietly. "Sere??She's alright??Where is she??What happened to her??"asked Endymion. "She's gone...she didn't want to see you,Endy.."whispered Ami. Those words hit him like a slap in the face.She DIDN'T want to see him.. she must hate him.. "She hates me.."whispered Endymion somberly. "She's going to die!!!They're going to kill her when the Katana catch her!!"exclaimed Ami as she burried her face into her brother's white shirt. Endymion felt as if somebody had just kicked him in the stomach. Serenity sighed and flipped her phone off.This was her problem...not Rei's.She did not have the right to drag her into it.She wouldn't!!But,she DID owe her friend an explanation.Sighing...what a mess she had made.Her WHOLE life was a mess!!The moment she fell in love,that was when all her blunders started. "I know Rei,I know.And yes,maybe I have gone insane.Love does that to people.." "Serry...please..please tell me where you are.I-I'm afraid for you."wept Rei. "I'm a big girl,Rei...I know how to take care of myself."choked Serenity. "Where are you??" "I'm going to kill Seijuurou Ginga."stated her voice calmly. "Sere-"began Rei,but the phone was cut off by Serenity hanging up. Rei stared at the phone in anger. She would wait for the sun to set before she made her move.This was going to be the last sunset,Seijuurou Ginga,ever saw.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jadeite walked along the corridors of the mansion.Ami was in her room sleeping,Zoiscite had wanted to watch over Ami.Nephlite was walking somewhere in the gardens with Makoto.Malachite was talking with Minako and Endymion had sat in front of the fire burning in his study unmoving for the past few hours. Heading upstairs to one of the mansion's turrets for a breath of fresh air.Everything seemed so alien to him,ever since that day at the fountain, every thing seemed to be so different... Standing on the turret watching the sun sink into the horizon.Everything seemed fine now...but it was probably an illusion. "Jadeite."whispered a voice. Jadeite froze.Turning slowly,he squeezed his eyes shut.It was Rei... Advancing on her to catch her,Rei backed slowly. "Jadeite,wait...please."pleaded Rei. He didn't know why,but he stopped at the tone of her voice.She sounded desperate...it sounded genuine.He despised himself,for being soft where she was concerned. "What do you want??"Jadeite bit out harshly. "Please...listen to me...I need to see Endymion,now."breathed Rei. Jadeite gave a sharp bark of laughter. "You think I would be foolish enough to believe you???An assassin??Did I really rate THAT low in your book??"asked Jadeite. "Please..." "Your little ACT isn't getting any pity from me,Rei Hino.I'll bet ALL the men you did that to,were stupid enough to believe you??"said Jadeite his voice dripping with sarcasm.Turning,he began walking towards the tower door. How does one,trust an assassin...??"asked Jadeite looking over his shoulder. Rei staggered back a step as if he'd struck her. To Jadeite's surprise she began to laugh bitterly. "It was so predictable and trite wasn't it??The assassin who falls in love with her enemy...but I guess that was always a great drawback for us." said Rei. His eyes widened and he turned. "Rei.What are you doing here??" "I came,to change Serenity's future..if you will help me."said Rei. "Serenity?" "They WILL kill her,Endymion.She's left the clan and they will hunt her down to keep her silent."said Rei. "Ami told me as much..." Silence. "Do you love her,Endymion??" "More than my own life." "Then you have to stop her."stated Rei. "What do you mean??"asked Endymion angrily.
