Endymion returned to his home to find his front yard swarming with police. He didn't want to answer any questions now.He cold,wet,tired and unhappy. "Endy!!!"exclaimed Jadeite running towards him.Jadeite's face was pale and his eyes were empty.As if his soul had been stolen.He looked at his friend fearfully. "Jadeite." Endymion saw Nephlite standing next to a police officer.The rest were no where to be seen. "Where have the others gone???"asked Endymion confused. Jadeite stared confused,before a look of understanding flickered through his eyes. "Malachite,Makoto,Minako and Zoiscite have been sent to the hospital." answered Jadeite. Noticing his wounds,Jadeite's eyes flickered from his face to his wounds. "Do you need to see a doctor??????"asked Jadeite concerned. Endymion didn't answer however looked around for Ami. "Where is Ami and the assassins???"asked Endymion looking around. "Gone.They escaped before the police arrived.We think that they..they.. took Ami with them"replied Jadeite. Jadeite watched as Endymion's eyes became hard and cold.He'd seen the expression before.Anger... "Endy,why don't we go into the manor???You'll catch a cold."said Jadeite You're not going to help anyone getting sick." Endymion clenched his fist.He knew his friend was right...Damn the assassins.First his love,now his sister????? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Esmeraude watched as Coan,Bruche and a few other clan mates tended to the injured.Bruche was with Serenity who was unconscious.She was bleeding profusely when Esmeraude had gotten her back to the hideout. Bruche wasn't sure if she'd make it through the night.But if she did, there would be a small glimmer of hope for the blonde. A tug at her sleeve cause her to look away. "What do YOU want???!!"hissed Esmeraude. Ami's blue eyes filed with terror,but she remained firm."Please...let me help Sere??"pleaded Ami."I'm a medical graduate." "Do you want to die???"spat Esmeraude as she pulled her katana half-way out. "P-Please.I j-just want to help her.That's all.She's my.......friend." sobbed Ami her voice wavering slightly. Esmeraude stared at the captive,Ami Chiba which they had taken from the Chiba Manor.This small timid woman considered an assassin,her friend???? Esmeraude sighed.Wasn't Serenity once her friend too???Maybe...this woman could help her. Sheathing her sword,Esmeraude nodded."Alright,but if you make one wrong move...."Esmeraude left the sentence to trail off,taking a finger and drawing a line across her throat."You'll die."threathened Esmeraude. Ami nodded furiously.Tears spilling from her eyes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Endymion walked into his bedroom.The window was broken.His room was a mess.Looking into his mirror.His face was pale and haggard.Dark circles were appearing under his eyes. "Funny isn't it??"came a voice. It was Nephlite with Jadeite... "Oh,it's you,Nephlite." "You let her go,didn't you??"asked Jadeite. "You saved her."said Nephlite. "Let her go???"echoed Endymion confused. "Serenity." Endymion felt pain stab at his heart.*Serenity...I don't even know if she's alive anymore...* "She's an assassin...why the hell did you try and save her????!!!" shouted Nephlite angrily. "I had to.She saved me...and there was no other choice but to let her go."whispered Endymion softly. The sound of a 'bang' on the table made Endymion look up. "Damn whoever hired the assassins!!!If I ever find out,the person will wish they were dead.I hate it..."whispered Nephlite sliding to the floor. Jadeite was silent.His eyes were that of a man who's soul was dead. Endymion stared at is friends.He knew what ailed them.Because it ailed HIM too.It was love....For Nephlite,his love for the tall brave Makoto,who now lay in hospital.For Jadeite,it was the fiery raven-haired assassin,Rei Hino.Him and Jadeite...their love was for assassins.Women they perhaps,could never be with. *Sere..Ami...God..Ami,if something has happened to her,I swear I'll kill whoever took her.* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dimando stared at the pale form on the table that lay unconscious. Serenity Tsukino.She had grown up with him and his brother.She had been adopted into his family by his father.He loved her....and this was how she had repayed him.He never told her of his love.She had never even noticed.He left it at that.Years and years of unrequited love.He accepted that.But this was unforgivible.Betraying the family she had been brought into. *Why,Sere???I had let you make your own choice.But WHY THIS choice???* asked Dimando silently.However,the blonde could offer him no answer. Giving a sigh,Dimando turned to the bed beside Serenity's. His brother lay in the bed.Asleep. Ruffling his brother's hair,Dimando left the sickbay.His black cold heart filling with hatred for Endymion Chiba.Hating him for being able to possess Serenity's love.The one he had yearned for,not the love she gave him as a brother.He hated Endymion for being the cause of everything. Serenity's betrayal.His brother's injury.Everything... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rei sat on the balcony of the apartment she and Serenity shared.Staring out into the rainy night.Sunrise was hours away,and it still poured.The rain coming down with no mercy.Her violet eyes had a faraway look. Serenity had lost quite a lot of blood.Even if she survived...they didn't know what her condition would be when she woke up. ~FLASHBACK~ A quick maneuver and his blade connected with Serenity's back.Cutting it. "SERE!!!!"screamed Rei. Rei reached down to her thigh and pulled out a shoten blade.Throwing it. It dug itself into Saffir's shoulder. ~END FLASHBACK~ She gave a sigh.She had other problems besides Serenity...for instance, Jadeite.She liked him.A lot.Perhaps,even...love?? But she knew the path fate had brought her to.A crossroads.Why was it never easy in her life??She had to choose....because there was no way back. "I wish...I never knew or heard the name,Jadeite Hikaru."whispered Rei as a single tear fell from her eye. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Endymion stood in one of the rooms of the Chiba Manor as the huge picture window in his room was broken. He stared out at the rainy and hazy sky,streaked with lightning. Nephlite's words had stirred up an emotion he rather had left buried. ~FLASHBACK~ "Damn whoever hired the assassins!!!If I ever find out,the person will wish they were dead.I hate it..."whispered Nephlite sliding to the floor. ~END FLASHBACK~ The thing was...he KNEW WHO was the person who had hired the Sword Assassin Sect to assassinate him.Serenity had told him.But what WAS he suppose to do with the information??Blaming the person would get him no where. "Serenity...what am I to do???"asked Endymion softly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serenity lay on the bed,her broken bruised body in bandages,unconscious. "D-Do you think,she'll make it??"asked Coan. "I don't know little sister,I don't know."whispered Bruche."God help her,I don't know.." Ami stared at the pale blonde.Unconscious to the rest of the world. She could only wonder if Serenity Tsukino would reawaken... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Endymion awoke to the bright sunlight streaming through a window.His face was pale and haggard.He had lay on the bed,awake for most of the night. What little sleep had been tormented by nightmares. It was raining...he was in a cemetary.People walked away from a particular tomb stone.When they left,he ventured closer... What he saw engraved,horrified him.It was the tomb of Serenity.... He always woke up after that.. *Damn him to hell...he's going to pay for this..* Endymion clenched his fist tightly.He wanted badly to hurt the man..to the person who wanted him dead...the person who had thrown his life into shambles. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dimando sat at his desk.He'd just got off the phone with the 'client'. He had been angry and disappointed that Endymion Chiba was still alive. Clenching his fist.He slammed it on the table and gave a frustrated shout. His assassins were injured and the newly trained assassins were too inexperienced with this type of situation.He had asked the client to give them more time... He stared out at the dark clouds.It was still raining.How fitting it was to his dark and angry mood.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ami helped with the recovery of the other wounded.Serenity was still unconscious however,those with less serious injury had already awaken. She always sneaked looks at Serenity.Who did not even move an inch.But she couldn't walk around this area freely.She was always watched by one assassin.One wrong move and she was a dead person. "Hello Ami."came a voice. "Rei..." "So,getting use to your surroundings???"asked Rei quietly. "I manage."replied Ami softly. "How's Serenity???" "Still the same.No response to whatever we try.But she should wake any-" "Owwwwwwww..."came a moan. Ami and Rei turned to the sound.They saw the blonde sit up slightly. "SERE!!!!"they exclaimed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Serenity!!"exclaimed the two women rushing to the blonde's side. Serenity stared at the two women. "Who are you??"asked Serenity confused,staring at Ami and Rei. Rei and Ami gave a gasp. "Sere,you don't know who I am??"asked Rei frantically. Serenity stared at her hard.Then,shaking her head,"I'm sorry...I don't know who you are."said Serenity apologetically. "Where am I??Where's Saffir-kun and Dimando-kun??Esmer-chan?"asked Serenity confused. "T-They're somewhere around.We'll go get them."said Rei. Serenity smiled slightly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When they were out of hearing distance,Rei gave a muffled sob.Ami looked at her. "Oh,Rei..." "What's wrong with her???"sniffled Rei. "I think her mind is going through a momentary amnesiac lapse.Her body WAS in shock when Esmeraude brought her back."sighed Ami."I'm guessing the shock and trauma to her psyche and body must have been too much for her to take.It seems her amnesia is only to selective memories."said Ami. "Meaning???"asked Rei. "She doesn't remember you,the assassins,me and probably even my brother." said Ami. "B-But..Serin met Esmeraude in the sect!!"exclaimed Rei. "That's hard to say.The mind has ways of protecting itself.In her case, I'm guessing the trauma inflicted on her body stimulated her mind to protect itself from the things that caused her pain.So she wouldn't remember the assassin clan."hypothesized Ami. Rei's mind was whirling...Serenity didn't remember her.Did that mean she caused some of Sere's pain??? A tear ran down her cheek. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They ran into Bruche and Coan. "Coan,Bruche...Sere's awake."said Rei dejectedly. "What's wrong.I thought you would have been happy..."said Coan puzzled. Rei's lip trembled. "Serenity doeesn't remember her...probably not many of us.As far as I can tell,she still remembers her life,BEFORE she joined your assassin clan." explained Ami. Bruche and Coan stood there dumbfounded."Well...why aren't you with her??" exclaimed Coan. "We're going to find Saffir,as Dimando doesn't know about the assassin clan."lied Rei. "Ami,we need you to come with us to check on Serenity."ordered Bruche. "But,Saffir.." "I can find him myself."assured Rei."They need your help.Besides...you're suppose to listen to us.You make a wrong move and Esmeraude will jump on that excuse to kill you.We won't be able to defend you!"reminded Rei sadly. Ami nodded. "You're right."whispered Ami. Rei watched as the three women walked away down the passage.When she was certain they were out of hearing range,Rei broke down and cried silently. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serenity looked at her surroundings with interest.She seemed to be in some sort of underground caverns.Hopping of the bed she was on,Serenity felt a pain bite at her back and gut. Her vision blurred slightly.A stubborn memory of blue eyes and midnight hair persisted at her mind...the memory changed to woman with sad garnet eyes and black-green hair appeared in her mind,standing in the cavern. *Who's that??* She'd been here before...but...she didn't.She saw a blonde holding a katana blade.Who was that???Why did everything seem so familiar??Why couldn't she remember??? The figure changed back to the face of a man with blue eyes and midnight hair.The face was smiling at her.Other times was filled with sadness, mischieviousness and love...?? "Hi Serenity."came a voice. "Oh..it's you."smiled Serenity.It was the blue-haired girl she'd seen earlier.Who was she??How come she seemed so familiar?? "Who are you??"asked Serenity. "My name is Ami.This is Bruche and Coan."said Ami. "Pleased to meet you."smiled Serenity cheerfully. She welcomed this distraction to her jumbled thoughts.But the nagging image of the dark-haired man remained etched in her mind. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rei sat in her apartment..she had left the cavern.She'd found Saffir,told him the news and left.It was just too painful to stay there.Knowing your bestfriend didn't remember you. *What had happened Sere???What's happen to you???Why can't you remember?? Rei sat down on the floor,hugging her legs. Endymion had little faith in the police.His friends were still in the hospital.Jadeite and Nephlite merely wandered around the mansion cursing whoever had hired the assassins.He couldn't talk to them...they were too filled with anger.The mysterious identity of the assassins client,was his secret...a secret Serenity Tsukino had given him. However,he knew not what to do with it.' Trying to push at the mental block,she tried to grasp on to anything of her life now.As far as she knew...she could only remember certain events... but to what her companions told her,all the memories she had,had happened years ago. Her head hurt when she tried to remember.It was always painful. She passed by the dark gloomy Chiba mansion.For some reason,her heart throbbed painfully in her chest. Ignoring the rush of blood,Serenity walked away from the mansion,following her friends. She was brought to an apartment.What had happened to the Kage mansion?? The door opened..and a wave of deja vu swept through her.She felt as if she had lived here?? "Hello Rei.."said Bruche. "Good evening,Bruche.Hello Serenity,Coan."said Rei as she forced a smile on her face. "Come on in,you all must be cold."said Rei. Coan and Bruche shook their heads."We have to be getting back.Pattsu and Karaberasu just woke up."informed Coan. Rei nodded. "We'll see you two,tomorrow."said Bruche walking off. "Alright.Careful!!"called Rei. "Did I live here??"whispered a soft voice. Rei turned to see Serenity holding a picture of them in the park smiling. Rei cursed herself for leaving all that lying about.Ami had said she had to regain her memory by herself it Serenity was to accept the reality of what her mind had denied. "Serenity...why don't you just go rest okay??We'll talk another time." sighed Rei plucking the photo out of her hands. Serenity nodded and headed towards the rooms. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rei sighed.Moments later,she was out in the weather.Cold wind bit at her face.She walked absent-mindedly.Memories all going through her mind. Her parents...Hotaru,her life. She stopped at a fountain. *You can pretend Rei Hino.You can lie to others..saying that's rain and not tears,flowing down your face.You can hide all the hurt,but you'll never be able to lie to yourself.*scolded her mind. Staring at the rippling water in the fountain...she stared at her reflection.It changed...to a more,youthful,more innocent face with raven hair.*Hotaru??* No...it wasn't Hotaru.But it had to be someone she knew. The face looked familiar yet,it could not be hers.Too innocent. The reflection changed again.This time,a man with greenish eyes and light blonde hair. "Jadeite....what have you done to me??"whispered Rei. Staring at the reflection,it was smiling back at her.It's eyes full of love and hope. Clenching her fist,Rei hit the water's surface.Disturbing the image. It was not true!!It could never be true!!She and him...they were both from different worlds.Their lives had too much distance apart.She was the assassin,he was the bodyguard. "Hello Rei.What a surprise."said Jadeite solemnly.His voice startled her. It was flat.Like a man who had died. Pain and guilt stabbed at her.She stared at him for a moment before trying to push past him. Jadeite's eyes narrowed.Catching her arms,he held them in a tight grip. Rei struggled in his grasp. "Let go!!"she exclaimed. "Let go???"asked Jadeite.He then gave an ugly laugh."You've played me for a fool.I'll bet you were laughing at it all the time,weren't you???" growled Jadeite. "No,I-" "My bestfriends are in the hospital because of your damn assassin clan!! What have you done with Endymion's sister!!???"shouted Jadeite,shaking her angrily. "I don't know!!"lied Rei. Pain bit at her arms,as he tightened his grip. "You're a lousy liar,Rei Hino.For once in your life,tell the truth!!" shouted Jadeite angrily. "The truth??You want to know the truth??"said Rei as she gave a bitter laugh. "Alright,I'll tell you the truth.The truth you so wish to know!!" shouted Rei bitterly. "Ami is fine and alive!!I'm an assassin...but I never fooled you!!I loved you!!There!!Are you happy??" Jadeite snorted."Love??You don't have to dress your words up in your phony acts.All I want to know is where is Ami and who hired you!!"spat Jadeite. "You want me to tell you where Ami is???In your dreams!!I don't know who hired us!!"hissed Rei as she pushed back the overwhelming hurt from Jadeite's words. Jadeite lunged at her. Rei retaliated with a swift catch of his arm and a shove to his back, causing him to land in the fountain. "I wasn't dressing up my words,Jade...I really did love you.But maybe, the Jadeite I loved is dead..."sighed Rei sadly."All I can tell you is, Ami's alive.I'm sorry." Rei ran off into the darkness of Tokyo,leaving Jadeite to sit in the fountain.Water dripping down his face. "Serenity.."came a voice.It belonged to a woman.She was dressed in black but her face was hidden in the darkness. "Who are you??" "I am who I am."said the woman. "Sere.."came another voice.It was a man this time.The same man with dark hair and midnight eyes. "You...the face from my mind."gasped Serenity."Who are you??" "Yes...don't you remember me??"asked the man sadly. "I-I..." "Don't you love me anymore??Or was what you said all a lie?"asked the man. "Hello Serin.How are you??"asked a tall woman with garnet eyes. "YOU!!"shouted Serenity. "Are you angry at me Serenity??" More faces appeared in her dream...so many asking her questions.Questions she could not answer.Only one person did not ask her anything.The woman dressed in black,who hung back at the shadows. "Sere...why?" "Serin...why?" "Serenity...why?" Serenity gave a scream.... ~End of dream~ Serenity woke up with a start.She was cold and her whole body shook.Sweat ran down her head.Her head hurt too. "I want Endymion Chiba dead...he's a nuisance and a bad addiction to my sister." "But you know my assassins are injured..." "That's no excuse.You call yourself the best???"asked the voice,before putting down the phone with a click. Natsumi Ginga marched angrily to her room.She had just accidently eavesdropped on her brother... *He was the one who hired the assassins to kill Endymion!!How dare he!!* screamed Natsumi's mind.Her brother was going to pay for meddling in her business. Seijuurou Ginga sat in his study,tapping his fingers on the desk. "Damn you,Endymion Chiba..."growled Seijuurou. "After all I sent after you and put you through,you're still alive..."spat Seijuurou angrily.Walking toward the bar in the study,he poured a drink and drank it.Whatever it took,he was going to kill Endymion Chiba..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Few days later... Serenity sat on the bed.She'd had the nightmare again.This time...it was getting clearer. She'd been getting flashes of memory.But she could never grasp it.Her head still hurt when she tried to remember.Her injuries were almost healed. Even though she didn't know how she got them... The face of the man still plagued her.And also the woman with queer garnet eyes.Who were they??Maybe she'd ask Rei. Rei sat in the living room.It had been days since Serenity had returned. The rain had finally stopped.The sun was out and shining.It was a beautiful day.Maybe,...everything was going to be alright???Afterall,there was always a fresh new day after a rainstorm.....and the sun after a dark night. Rei stared out at the sunny bright day.A voice brought her back to reality. "Rei," Turning to face her friend,Rei plastered a smile on her face. "Yes,Sere??" "Do you know who a woman with dark black-green hair and garnet eyes are?? I feel like I know her..."whispered Serenity. Rei froze at her question.Setsuna Meiou. "I-I don't think so...do you remember anything??"asked Rei. "Some things.Not much.I've been getting memory flashes.But I can never remember them.I've also been having dreams.Strange dreams."said Serenity. "Of??"prompted Rei. Serenity stared at her nervously.
