Arctic Duel Campaign (Version 1.01)

This is an add-on campaign for Jane's F/A-18.

The campaign scenario is an engagement between Russian and American carrier groups in the Arctic Ocean. The campaign is non-linear. It consists of eight missions, one of which is selected to be played on a partly random basis. The campaign goes on indefinitely until either one of the carriers is sunk or the player runs out of aircraft.

Installation:
-------------
1. Extract the contents of this archive to a temporary directory.

2. Backup the file CTEXTE.CMP in your FA18\CAMPAIGN\DATA folder.

3. Copy the file CTEXTE.CMP included in this archive to your FA18\CAMPAIGN\DATA folder.

This file contains text files for campaigns. The arctic duel campaign is playable without the new CTEXTE.CMP file, but you won't get any explanatory text. The new CTEXTE.CMP file also contains the text files for the original Jane's campaign, Matt Wagner's Valhalla campaign and my own Karelskaya campaign.

4. Copy the file ARCTIC DUEL.MCF to your FA18\CAMPAIGN folder.

5. Copy the mission files DUEL1.CMF - DUEL8.CMF to your FA18\CAMPAIGN\MISSION folder.

Mission notes:
--------------
1. When flying a carrier attack mission, flying through waypoint 2 is the cue for your escorts to join you, and for the support aircraft to proceed with their mission. If you miss the rendezvous, you will wind up over the Russian fleet on your own with no tanker to refuel you on the way home.

2. When flying a fleet defense mission, it can be very tempting to ask AWACS for assistance. This is NOT recommended. Owing to a minor bug in the game, if you call for assistance in the vicinity of the carrier, aircraft not yet due to take off will pop into the air. Not only is this unsightly, it can prevent the proper functioning of the aircraft that are tasked to assist you. If you want more support for these missions, assign extra aircraft to your flight.

Campaign notes:
---------------
The main purpose of this campaign is to demonstrate the possibility of making non-linear campaigns for F/A-18. This means that a lot could be done to improve the playability of the campaign, particularly by making the missions more varied. With more missions to choose from, and a more complex mission-selection algorithm, a non-linear F/A-18 campaign could appear dynamic to the player (see http://www.geocities.com/jypes/jf18nonlinear.htm for further details).

Thanks to Matt Wagner for providing me with the text files for his campaign, and the mission template that made this campaign possible.

Changes from initial release:
-----------------------------
1. Attack/defense missions are now selected randomly rather than alternately.
2. Russian land-based aircraft have been added to carrier attack missions.
3. Randomness has been increased in fleet defense missions.
4. The picture on the campaign-loading screen is now a photograph of the Kuznetsov.
5. An introductory movie has been added.
