Real-Time Strategy
Although strategy games aren't a new addition to games, real-time
strategy games became popular only in the recent years due to the
hardware improvements. In fact, before them, turn-based ones
reigned supreme (like playing a board game). Blizzard managed
to bring great titles, such as Warcraft 1 and the more popular
Warcraft 2, and the more recent Starcraft (and its add-on Brood
Wars. Other great titles from other software companies include
Command & Conquer and Red Alert, Total Annihilation and also
the Settlers series and Age of the Empires.
Without doubt, Starcraft was the most strategy game we ever
played. We played it mostly myself (Terrans) and my 2 friends
Black Vomit (Zerg) and Lord Magic (Protoss) versus various
computer opponents. Such astronomical battles could take
about 4 hours or more !
