DEATHMATCHING FAQ

              What are 3D games ?

There are lots of computer games. so obviously people tend to categorize them.
3D first-person view games are very realistic games, as you virtually are controlling
a humanoid and seeing as if through his eyes. In your hand you carry a weapon,  and
later on you'll find more better ones. You can play these games alone. or far more
exciting, with one or more persons ,i.e., multiplayer. Ever heard of Quake ?

In what ways can 3D games be played in multiplayer games ?

There are only two distinguished ways : Co-Operative or Deathmatch.
In Co-Op you and your friend/s fight against the computer, and share the resources to
destroy the evil monsters. But in Deathmatch you and your friend/s fight against each
other, preferably without computer monsters in the way.

So how deathmatch is played  and won ?
Deathmatch is played according to the contestants, in whatever style they like.
Obviously their aim is to kill their opponent/s, each kill is called a frag, or a gib.
In tournament games, rules are set up to suit the time and needs of the contestants.
As there are no specific rules and a deathmatch game is so random, the game is won
in two ways. Either by a time limit, in which the person with the highest frag at the
end wins the game, or by a frag limit, in which the person that reaches  the frag
number agreed at the beginning of the game, wins.

What are the hardware requirements for these games ?

These type of games are amongst the most hardware-hungry ones. But this is not the
same for all the games. For example a game that was released 3 years ago, won't
need the hardware that a month old release will need. Most of you that are reading
this will have a Pentium 2 or better. But if you have a 486, only Doom and the likes,

and perhaps Duke3D can be played. A Pentium 3 with a 3D Card is very powerful.

So, can you describe the various hardware methods used in multiplayer?

Serial Cable : 2 Player Maximum
A cable is needed to be attached between the 2 com ports.
Direct Modem :  2 Player Maximum
A modem for each player is needed., then one phones the other.
Internet Play : The maximum number of players is the one that the game allows.
You need a fast modem, a good  internet service provider and a
program like Kali to establish contact for some older games.
In Malta internet gaming is still slow, unless you have ADSL.
Network Play : The max. is like in internet, but also on the amount of computers.
You only need a network card and some minor stuff. It costs
only around Lm6. This is the fastest and most reliable way.

How many players can play instantly in the same game and where do you play ?

As we play using network, what limit us is the amount of computers but also the
amount of space needed. Generally we play up to 5 simultaneously, as long as
there isn't someone out there that has a small empty garage to help us.....

How can I join the club ?

Very simple, just leave an e-mail to the names below, stating also your computer
specifications plus you favourite 3Dgames if any, and any other questions.

Is there some sort of admission fee to join ?

No, of course not ! We just play for fun, and make new friends too. What you need
though, is to carry your computer where the deathmatch is taking place. If you don't
have a means of transport, we may arrange some means for you. But don't forget,
you'll need to buy a network card if you don't have one.
