Me and my friends used to play lots of 3d shooter games, and one may
ask how our attention was diverted to such a different game. When I
saw the game for the first time, back in late 1996, I remember saying
to my friends that it is an interesting title but not such an incredible
game. Then in the beginning of 1997, my friend Black Vomit purchased
Diablo and he used to tell me how much he was absorbed into it. Then
one Saturday morning we installed the spawned version from his CD,
(spawn enables multiple copies to be installed on different computers
without using the CD but with very limited gameplay; like shareware)
and I remember myself being totally immersed in such a perfect
blend of beautiful graphics, scary music/sound effects and absorbing
gameplay. Whoever played Diablo will remember the panic associated
with killing the Butcher for the first time, in the process dieing tens of
times, and will surely remember the heart pounding effect it created.
Other different players used to join us regularly, and we mastered the
game through many months of gameplay, collecting items, searching
the web for various information and even buying the add-on Hellfire.
Even my girlfriend (Lady_Den) joined us in our quest in defeating
Diablo's minions and I am very happy to say that she also had great fun
playing this game. Thanks to all those that joined our discovery
of Diablo's multiplayer and of course, thanks to the makers of Diablo,
Blizzard (also makers of the WarCraft series and StarCraft).
