Chapter I: Fox McCloud 1
~The Great Fox, Lylat System, Date Unknown~
"Hey Fox!" a voice on the upper deck of the Great Fox shouted, "Take a look at this!"
"What is it, Slippy?" Fox shouted back, "And it better be good!"
"Oh, I think you'll be interested Fox," Peppy hollered, "Very interested."
"Okay, I'll be right there." Fox closed the Vid-Call from Corneria and climbed up to the bridge.
"What is it?" Fox asked.
"A fighting tournament is what!" Slippy said, "They've invited you to join!"
"Tournament?" Fox said as he squinted at the Vid-Mail display, "Super...Smash...League?"
"Hmmph." snorted Falco, unimpressed, "If they wanted a real fighter, they would have picked me."
"Quiet, Falco!" Peppy snapped, "So, you planning on joining?"
"Why not?" Fox asked, "Set a course for S.S.L. Headquarters!"
~S.S.L. Headquarters, Planet Nintendo, Date Unknown~
"Hmm..." Fox mused, "A plumber, a lizard, a knight, a gorilla, a rat, a pink cloud, and a cyber-suit... Some competition."
~ Bing-bong...will all invitees please report to the briefing room immediately. ~
"That's my cue!" Fox said as he walked into the dark, mysterious building, "See you guys later!"
Fox hurried to the Briefing Room and sat down at the last empty chair around the circular table.
Unfortunately, the last chair was in between the large gorilla and the bulky guy in the cyber suit.
But before he could protest, a small man in a red polka-dotted turban hurried in.
"Um...let's see...oh yeah, the welcome...As you all know, many an argument rages over the best fighter in the known universe." The turbaned man said, "That is why you all have been invited here. Now let's go around the table and introduce ourselves. I am Toad, Mushroom Retainer to the Princess Peach."
The 2 similarly clad plumbers stood up in unison, "We're the Mario Brothers, Mario and Luigi, as you can tell by our snazzy hats." the brothers said, "Even though I'm better looking." Luigi mumbled.
"Yoshi! I'm Yoshi!" The lizard said. "Anybody got a quarter for the vending machine?"
"Moving on!" Toad interrupted.
"I am Link, Guardian of Hyrule, Hero of Time, Savior of Princess Zelda, but I don't mean to brag." Link said smugly. "Oh, and here you go." Link tossed a rupee to Yoshi, who was still dissapointed.
"This won't fit in the slot..."
"Oo-oo! I Donkey Kong! King of Jungle! Got banana?!" DK yelled.
"Pika-pika."
"Jigglypuff!"
The pink cloud just sat and smiled. His name tag had "Hello, My Name Is... k I R b Y."
"Hi! I'm Samus Aran, and I make a living as a bounty hunter!" a feminine voice said from inside the suit.
"Butch..." Fox mumbled. "Um, yeah, I'm Fox McCloud. I pilot the Great Fox and saved the Lylat System. I don't know if you heard about that on the news or not...never mind."
"Little boy, can I help you?" Toad said to a boy in stripes that walked in the door.
"Yeah man, I'm here for the tourney! I was invited!" The boy said.
"What's your name?" Toad replied.
"Ness. Call me Ness." Said he.
"Oh, and our final competitor was vaporized in an F-Zero race, so he won't be joining us." Toad added.
"Now any questions?" Toad asked.
Everyone raised their hands.
"Dang...there are always questions. Ok, you, the suit." Toad mumbled.
"What does this involve, exactly, Mr. Toad?" Samus asked.
"Well, it's up to a 4 person free for all in a V.R. Arena with random weapons and medical supplies teleported inside. The Arenas are modeled after each of your own habitats." Toad replied.
"What kind of weapons?" Link asked, holding his shining blade.
"Well, whatever you have with you," Fox patted his TT-33 Lylat Blaster, "And other items."
"Anymore questions?" Toad asked.
Everyone raised their hands again.
"Um...good! Now let's go to the training chambers!"
Fox followed the group to a room of doors marked TRAINING CHAMBER.
"Everyone pick a door and the rest is as simple as...Just pick a door!" Toad explained.
Fox walked inside one of the chambers and the door shut behind him.
"This seems bogus." Fox mused.
A Vid-Window greeted him.
~select opponent~ The window said.
Fox looked at the pictures of the people he just met.
He glanced at his own picture and touched it.
~home or away arena~
Fox hit home.
~select difficulty 1-10~
"Well, I can surely beat myself!" Fox said and hit 10.
~your funeral. prepare for battle.~
"What? Wait!" Fox yelled, but everything flashed white.
The next thing he knew he was on top of the Great Fox, flying above Corneria.
"Hmm...well, I'm ok, but how come I see myself over there?"
~3...2…1.GO!~
Fox pulled out his blaster and moved carefully towards his counterpart.
"H...hey buddy, what's up?" Fox asked the double.
Fox was greeted by a flying kick.
"What the..?!" while flying he was hit by a few rounds of laser fire.
"Oof! That's it!" Fox pulled out his own blaster and fired at the double.
The double jumped and ducked nimbly until he was nose to nose with Fox.
"You asked for it!" Fox pulled back his fist and uppercutted the double to the tail end of the ship.
~weapon being teleported: bat~
"Weapon?" Fox asked as he looked for a bat.
The bat, unfortunately appeared next to the downed clone.
"I think it's out cold...that bat is mine..." Fox said as he inched towards the bat and double.
"Ha, got..!" The double backflipped over Fox and grabbed the bat.
"Hey! That was mine!" Fox said as he turned around to get a face full of Major-League Bat.
"Yaaaaaaa....." Fox was sent flying to the nose of the Great Fox where he hung on for dear life.
"Boy...it's high up here..." Fox glanced at the double and the planet below.
"Uh-oh..." Fox said as the clone walked up to his clinging hands.
"Don't!" Fox pleaded, but the clone raised his foot and sent Fox flying into space.
"NOOOOOooooo....." Fox yelled as he plummeted towards the planet's atmosphere, where he would be incinerated. "YAAAAAaaaaa....." Fox could feel the heat start to build when everything flashed white.
~game over. fox loses.~
Fox woke up in an infirmary.
"Wha? Where? Who? How?" Fox looked around startled to see the other competitors similarly battered.
Fox heard Toad talking to a deep voiced stranger outside the room.
"I thought you said they were good."
"They are, they just over estimated themselves. They'll get better."
"They'd better."
Fox tried to say something, but the darkness enveloped him once more.
