.....A tiny Island of only 100 miles long and 35 miles
wide. It`s an Island full
of diversity and interesting
atractive touristic places, where you
can find beautiful
exotic hideouts , white sand beaches, valleys,
mountains
and many other natures wonders,
besides It`s brillant
attentive & friendly people.
The Island of Puerto Rico
is located north to the Caribean Sea,
which bathes with
i`ts beautiful waters the south coast
of the Island , and
The Atlantic Ocean bathes the north coast.
Puerto Rico
is the main Island, but there
are also smaller Islands
near by which include "Vieques", "Culebra"
and "Mona
Island" . Our most distinguished topographical
aspects
is the "Cordillera Central" which is a group of
mountains
that extend on the center of the Island
all the way from
the east to the west coast. The " Cordillera Central"
have
the highest mountain peack called "Cerro
Punta". This
peack has an elevation
of 1,338 meters of altitude.
Our climate is tropical with an average
temperature of
75 degrees farenheiht. The population of Puerto
Rico is
mostly of hispanic origin eventrought various cultures
do
exist. Our official languages
are spanish and english.
The Puerto Rican constitution
was approved in 1952.
This was the same day when the Island received
(got) his
actual status ""Free Associated
State" (Estado Libre
Asociado) Our goverment has the capacity
to write and
ammend its own constitution of
the E.E.U.U. we also
count with a commissioner who resides
in the U.S. and
has the priviledge to vote
in the U.S. congress. Our
goverment is divided in 3 branches:
legislative, judicial
and administrative. The judicial system
is composed of
a supreme, superior and district courts
and some cases
can be appealed
at the U.S. supreme court. The
governor leads the executive power and
is elected every
4 years. Our
political status is debatable among
comonwealth , statehood, and independence.
Presently
there are 3 political parties, the "democratic
popular",
"new progresive" and the "independence
party" which
support the independence of the U.S.
Our Capital city
is San Juan wich is located on
the north coast of the
Island . San Juan is also the main port, it
is caracterized
by its numerous colonial buildings and its
narrow bricks
roads (streets) which historically. The Island was
possesed
by the United States in 1898.
