My name is Dave and I am currently a First Officer at a commuter airline in Hawaii. I grew up on O'ahu in Kailua just a few miles from Bellows AFS. I began my flying career here at the Honolulu International Airport in 1992. I enjoyed flying so much that I quit school here in Hawaii and transferred to the Universtiy of North Dakota to persue a BS in Commercial Aviation. (That should give you a pretty good idea just how much I like to fly!) During my last year at UND, I worked for UND Aerospace and was able to transfer back to Hawaii when Honolulu Community College and the University of North Dakota joined forces to start a college-based flight training program in Hawaii. I was a classroom insturctor for the Fall of 1998 and Spring of 1999 at HCC teaching Introdution to Aviation and Advaced Aircraft Systems and was also a flight instuctor to 12 students. It was duing this time that I became very interested in the history of aviation in Hawaii; particularly during the War Years. I began to search the internet for any information I could about the various airports on O'ahu and was unable to find anything usefull. With absolutely no source of information I began a very modest website in early April of 1999 so that the next person with an interest in any of the airports here in Hawaii and their history would not be as disappointed as I was to find that no one had written anything about them. I had no experience with HTML and was lost from the start of it all but with a little determination I was able to get this far. My current project is Bellows AFS, the long forgotten runways were always a source of facinaiton to me as a child and I was surprised to learn that this small Air Froce Station was once a spralling Air Force Base. I hope to eventully turn this site into the foremost source of information about Hawaii's civil and military aviation history. If you have any stories, pictures, or information about any facet of Hawaii's history please get in touch with me, I would love to talk to you. If you happen to work for an airline and would like to give me a job I would also LOVE to talk to you! On a serious note, however, I think it is very important that somewhere this information is kept for future generations as the history of Hawaii in the second World War begins to fade away. I would like to thank you for visiting Hawaiian Aviation History. Aloha and mahalo!
