New or Old, By Ben Dalfen

In spite of the fact that new items on the Saga index page browser will show up in a different color if you have not yet clicked on them to read the story, I have been asked by a couple of cousins to indicate on the Saga Index Page which stories are newer and which are older. I was told this would eliminate confusion so (G-d forbid) they would not have to click open a page they have already read.

I have therefore decided to write a number at the end of each title on the index page which corresponds to the file number of the Saga stories. Thus if you recognize the title of story 14, don't bother clicking on story 12, because you have already read it (but you are allowed to re-read a story if you want to ;-).

This reminds me of when we were kids going to school in Montreal. When winter came and Dad & Mom would go to Miami for a few weeks, they would get Aunty Miriam Lehrer to stay at our house to cook for us and tend to our needs. However, our needs were not plentiful, and poor Aunty Miriam was getting bored. Having recently immigrated to Canada from Israel, Aunty Miriam was not yet capable of reading English and there was little suitable reading material for her at our house.

She found copies of the weekly Jewish Chronicle around the house and began browsing over the pages, pausing to look at the pictures.

One day Aunty Miriam calls me over and I see a confused look on her face as she holds one copy of the Jewish Chronicle in her left hand and another issue of the Jewish Chronicle in her right hand. "Tell me," she asked, "which is this week's copy and which is last weeks?" Glancing at the copies, I told her the magazine in her left hand is this week's and the one in her right hand is last weeks. "But why," I asked Aunty Miriam, "does it matter?" "Because," answered Aunty Miriam, "last week's edition of the Chronicle I already read, and now I want to read this week's!"
