OZZY OSBOURNE

John Michael Osbourne was born on December 3rd., 1948 in Birmingham, England. The nickname of "Ozzy" was given to him by his friends since he was a little boy. His career as a singer begun when he gathered with an old friend whom just had started a band called "Approach", which had no vocalist. Ozzy offered himself as a singer and went right away to get an amplifier and two microphones, and then he joined the band.

After a short while, Ozzy quitted "Approach" and joined to "Music Machine". There he met Gezzer Butler and together they created a new band called "Rare Breed", which never succeeded; for that reason Ozzy put an add in a local newspaper which said: "Ozzy zig, vocalist, requires band. Owns own p.a.". This add had been seen by Bill Ward and Tony Iommy whom belonged to a band called "Mithology". Thus, Tony and Bill, with Jimmy Phillips y Clark, joined to Ozzy and Geezer in "Rare Breed", which soon changed its name for "Polka Tulk". And after a short while, Jimmy Phillips and Clark left the band, leaving only Tony, Geezer and Ozzy, and they decided to change the bands name (again) for "Earth". And, as you might know, they didnt play Heavy Metal, yet. They were a Rhythm & Blues band (or something like that).

By that time they were seriously thinking about the bands direction. They werent completely happy neither with the rhythm theyve been playing, nor the bands name, nor the social-political environment that surrounded them. One day, the band went to see a horror film. And after that, they decided to take the name of that film to start a hole new musical concept known world wide as the Legend of "Black Sabbath".

Thus old Ozzys career started, and together with "Black Sabbath" he got great glories; who doesnt remember "Nativity In Black", "Iron Man", "Paranoid" and a lot of other excellent tunes that made history?

But soon those glories with "Black Sabbath" should have come to an end for Ozzy, who decided to quit the band in 1977, because of creative differences with the drummer Bill Ward, and some other troubles with Tony Iommy. And after a failed substitution, the Sabbaths asked Ozzy to come back, and they recorded another successful album in 1978 titled: "Never Say Die". Finally, in 1979 Ozzy is definitely fired from Black Sabbath, and replaced by the ex-Rainbow, Ronnie James Dio.

Thus Ozzys solo career starts, and to his fortune, he found in 1980 the extraordinary axe-man Randy Rhoads (ex-Quiet Riot), and together with the ex-Uriah Heeps, Bob Daisly and Lee Kerslake, made an excellent chemistry from which resulted Ozzys very first solo album: "Blizard of Ozz".

In 1981 they recorded: "Diary of a Madman". Kerslake and Daisly quitted the band and were replaced by Tommy Aldridge and Rudy Sarzo.

Ozzy starts being news for the media, due to a series of anecdotes that every good fan must know. For example that one when Ozzy the head a dove in a CBS party; or the world famous anecdote when he also bitted off a bats head, which Ozzy thought it was a fake bat, and as a result of that, he had to be immediately rushed to the hospital for rabies shots. Ozzy describes it as "one of the most horrible, painful experiences of my life".

And you might also remember the San Antonios chapter in 1982, when Ozzy was visiting The Alamo, dressed up as a woman. So during reloading Oz felt the need to relieve himself. He walked over to this half knocked down wall and starts taking a leak. That piece of wall turned out to be part of The Alamo building. Ozzy was thrown in jail and banned from ever playing in San Antonio, Texas again (A ban which was recently lifted).

But not everything in Ozzys solo career are funny anecdotes, there are also sad ones, like the one occurred on March 19th., 1982, when suddenly Randy Rhoads and the tours bus driver, crashed in an airplane. And what supposed to be a joy ride, ended up as a tragedy.

Randy Rhoads no longer existed, and with him ended a key period in Ozzy Osbournes career. After his death, other axe-men had pass trough Ozzys band. We remember names such as: Brad Gillis, Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wylde and Joe Holmes. And what to say about his discography: "Speak of the Devil", "Bark at the Moon", "The Ultimate Sin", "Randy Rhoads Tribute", "No Rest for the Wicked", "The Ten Commandments", "Just Say Ozzy", "No More Tears", "Live and Loud", "Ozzmosis", and the most recent, "The Ozzman Cometh", amen of a series of singles, inedit versions and videos that made Ozzy Osbournes career one of the most complete in the history of Heavy Metal.

In 1996, Ozzy created an important festival called The Ozz-Fest, which gathers a lot of renown bands and gives an opportunity to new bands to launch themselves to conquer the top of the Metal Olympus.

During the 1997s Ozz-Fest, Ozzy got together with his old friends Geezer and Tony. And since that memorable date, strong rumors have been arose about a supposed reintegration of the legendary "Black Sabbath" band, which seems to be kind of difficult, though in showbiz, you never know. Unless, we can be absolutely sure of one thing: there aint no more hard feelings between Ozzy, Tony and Geezer.

Ozzys career continues; and, as I said, its one of the most envied of all Heavy Metals history. This is Ozzys discography, so far:

OZZY OSBOURNE
