The Freddie Mercury Award

In 1995 BRIT Awards saw the introduction of a new dedicated
award to be given in honour of one of the industry's most celebrated
and revered names - FREDDIE MERCURY

Himself the recipient of a BRIT Award in 1990 when QUEEN were
recognised for their Outstanding Contribution to British Music,
The Freddie Mercury Award has been created to commemorate the
memory of Freddie and to recognise the remarkable endeavor
by others from within the field of music.

The Freddie Mercury Award is given to honour Artists or
organisations who in the opinion of the BPI council of members have
made an extraordinary contribution to charitable works or consciousness
raising during the previous year.

The Freddie Mercury Award is unique among its counterparts:
it takes the form of a statuette sculpted in the likeness of Freddie.
It is the work of Irena Sedlecka, who also sculpted Freddie's statue
in Montreux.
