Notorious for his it really happened story telling abilities, Bob Slacks (left), aka Chris Townsend has a career path in entertainment, writing, travel, education and music too chaotic to chronicle. Bob has played in bands in the UK, USA and Australia, he even claims to have played bass with 80's UK/Canadian number one outfit Cutting Crew ( I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight). As a bass player he is uncompromisingly melodic and a master of infectious groove & as a performer, his often unhinged energy ensures that just about anything can happen at a Foible's show. Audience members beware!.
Gav' McDougall (right) aka Aaron Wales, is just the most amazing musician. He plays 245 instruments all with uttermost skill. Gav also loves to purchase things, loves renovating and taking days off work. He is the president of the Kombi club of Ocean Grove. His claim to fame is that he has been thrown out of two national bands, Powderfinger and silverchair. He has us believe that he left them before they threw him out. The boy possesses the voice of an angel, and doesn't he know it...He just opens his mouth and SSSSIIIINNNGGGGSSSS.
Mr Rex Sally (left)aka Steve Lane is the sounds man of vpf with his spacious electric guitar, brooding vocals and Trombone wielding antics. An award winning songwriter, engineer and producer, Rex heads up the Real2Reel music program (for welfare agency St Lukes) sharing his production skills and love of music in prisons, schools and indigenous communities around Victoria.
A prolific songwriter, his songs (with vpf, vibropile and his work with Real2Reel) have been included on film soundtracks, documentaries, radio and television.
Dr Kevin Mancini (left) aka Mark Jackson, plays trumpet, schooled in trad jazz high school riffs which limit
his ability for frippery but which encourage sweet melodic flourishes.
He's also a guy who has written a few foibled songs, perhaps perceived
as perverse, but that influence is often due to his song-writing
collaborateur over the years, Trixie Katamatite (aka Cassy Nunan - a
wonderful author). The Doctor is also a serviceable rhythm guitarist,
albeit of the cacky handed variety. His day time pursuits are community
and social justice (but aren't we all!). His unfortunate mouth at times
(with one too many light beers) has been the cause for controversy over
the years and for that he does apologise, but will probably do it again.
