Phebe W. Sudlow (July 11, 1831, Poughkeepsie, New York - June 8, 1922, Davenport, Iowa )
Sudlow Junior High School in Davenport, Iowa was named after Phoebe� Sudlow who was a well known teacher in Scott County, Iowa. She was the first female superintendent of the Davenport schools and the first female superintendent in the country. She resigned in 1873 to accept the chair of English at the State University. There is a marker at the school honoring her. (per Davenport, Iowa City Office)
