Whitlocks Mill Light The most northernmost light in the United States, Whitlocks Mill Light is also the youngest. A lantern was hung from a tree on the U.S. side of the St. Croix River in 1892. In 1910 a more permanent lighthouse was built as Calais was a very important lumber port. Automated in 1969 and was leased to the Washington County Vocational Technical Institute in 1970.
