Baker Island Light
The present 43-foot brick tower was built in 1855
and a fourth order Fresnel lens was installed.
The Maine Historic Preservation Commission
refurbished the light In 1989.
In 1991 The U.S. Coast Guard was to deactivate the light,
but the locals complained and convinced the Coast Guard
to reconsider.
In 1997 The Coast Guard again planned to deactivate the light
and again the local mariners and others were able to convince
them that the light was still needed.
It is now part of Acadia National Park
