Baker Island Light
The present 43-foot brick tower was built in 1855 and a fourth order Fresnel lens was installed. The Maine Historic Preservation Commission refurbished the light In 1989. In 1991 The U.S. Coast Guard was to deactivate the light, but the locals complained and convinced the Coast Guard to reconsider. In 1997 The Coast Guard again planned to deactivate the light and again the local mariners and others were able to convince them that the light was still needed. It is now part of Acadia National Park |
