Goat Island Light
Goat Island Light was established in 1834
to help guide mariners into Cape Porpoise.
The keeper's house and 20 foot tower
were rebuilt in 1860,and a fifth order
Fresnel lens was installed.
Between 1880 and 1890 the
present 25 foot brick tower was
built and it was connected to the
keeper's house by a covered walkway.
In 1905 the boathouse was added
and the oil house in 1907.
The last Maine lighthouse to be manned
Goat Island was automated in 1990,
and the Fresnel lens replaced.
When former Presdent George Bush
was in residence at Walker Point in
Kennebunkport the station was
used as a security post.
