| Why do we have such unscientific names for our fingers? THUMB, INDEX FINGER, MIDDLE FINGER (excuse my Latin), RING FINGER (what was it called before people got married and wore rings?), and PINKY. Pinky? Or to get technical "little finger." What's the deal with that? And why don't we have names for our toes? We have the "big toe" (get out a medical reference book if you're not sure what that is) and we have "the other toes." We don't have a "pinky" toe (Have you ever looked closely at your little toenail? It's almost nonexistent!). Have you ever wondered what your hand would look like if your thumb was as correspondingly large as your "big toe" is compared to the rest of the toes? |
