CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF COMMENDATION MEDAL
(pictures No. 1 - 4)

It is awarded to Chief's of General Staffs after assumption of their duties. In case of award
of two Chief of General Staff Commendation Medals both are worn. The obverse of the medals
(distinct for each General Staff) depicts the emblem of the corresponding General Staff.

COMMENDATION MEDAL OF MERIT AND HONOUR
(pictures No. 5 & 6)

It is the highest Commendation Medal awarded to active duty service members of the
Hellenic Armed Forces. It is awarded in one class to General Officers who have meritoriously
commanded Army, Navy or Air Force Formations or rendered exceptional services to the
Armed Forces or the Fatherland. It is also awarded to Foreign Officers (active or reserve) for
exceptionally meritorious services to the Hellenic Armed Forces or the Nation. The obverse of
the medal depicts a likeness of Hellas holding a laurel wreath. The reverse of all Commendation
Medals is the same and is illustrated in picture No 6.

ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE FORMATION COMMAND MEDAL
(pictures No. 7- 15 )

It is awarded in three classes to General Officers for meritorious command of Army, Navy
or Air Force Formations. The third class is awarded for completion of at least six months
meritorious command at Brigade (or the equivalent for the other Branches) level, the second
class at Division and the first class at Corps or Army level. Bronze, silver or gold clasps with
the name of the Formation are attached to the medal's ribbon. The obverse of the medal depicts
a combination of. a helmet and two crossed rifles representing the Army, a battle ship
representing the Navy and flying aircrafts representing the Air Force, on a Thebaic shield,
symbol of the Nation' s military strength.

ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE MERITORIOUS COMMAND MEDAL
(pictures No. 16-18)

It is awarded in three classs (bronze, silver or gold) to Field Officers who have meritoriously
fulf'illed the prescribed period of command required for promotion to the ranks of Major, Lt
Colonel and Brigadier General (or the equivalent for the other service Branches). The obverse
of the medal depicts the bust of General Theodoros Colocotronis, the renowned Commander of
the Hellenic Armed Forces during the 1821 Struggle for Independence.



OFFICERS' LONGEVITY SERVICE COMMENDATION MEDAL
(pictures No. 19-21)

It is awarded in three classes (bronze, silver or gold) to Field Officers whose speciality does

not require a minimum prescribed pernod of command for promotion, with completion of
thirteen or eighteen years of active service for the third and second class respectively or for six
months service as General Officers for the first class.

STAFF OFFICER SERVICE COMMENDATION MEDAL and
STAFF SERVICE RIBBON BAR
(pictures No. 22-25)
The second class of this Commendation Medal is awarded to Field Officers, graduates of War Colleges, for two years service in General or Formation Staffs and the first class to General Officers graduates of the National Defence College for six months service to General Staffs. The ribbon bar is awarded to non-graduates of War Colleges for four years service to General or Formation Staffs. The obverse of the medal depicts the bust of Goddess of Wisdom Athena, surrounded by Staff Officers augillietes.
