TV Hits: Hansons views on the big "L" word!!!!!!!!!!!
~ZAC ~
At eleven years-old, cheeky little Zac is the youngest of the Hanson group. But this doesn't worry the chap the slightest. "Actually there's no age difference with us," the lively fair-haired lad declares and grins. "Anyway, I feel much older than eleven! And that's what Isaac and Taylor reckon too."
In most of their songs the Hanson brothers sigh about love and about girls, but isn't Zac still a bit too young for love? "Love isn't only for grown-ups," says the little bundle of fun and smiles. "There's different kinds of love of course. I live my brothers and sisters and my parents most of all. But I love my friends too. And I especially love our fans. They're all great and write us lots of letters, and they even draw us pictures! It's true that most of our songs are about love and girls, but only because it's the most interesting subject there is to sing about. Who'd want to hear a song for God's sake about the zebra crossing problem in Kansas City?!" He lets out a raucous laugh but then he looks serious and brushes his wisps of blond hair behind his ears. "I imagine that being in love with a girl is something very special. After all, if everyone's singing and talking about it, it must be cool. I haven't experienced the famous butterflies-in-the-stomach yet, but I've still got enough time for that. I'll know it when the time comes." Are twelve year year old boys at all interested in girls then? "Course they are," says Zac and gives a cheeky smile. "Though I don't turn round to look at every pretty girl who goes past like Ike does! But I've discovered that I can be romantic too! Well at least I have romantic moments. It's fab, for instance, when you're sitting round a camp fire singing love songs or just looking up at the stars and dreaming. I've found that everyone has their own idea of what's romantic. After all, everyone is different. And not just on the outside. Each person thinks and feels differently. I'm really looking forward to the first time I fall in love.
"To be quite honest I haven't thought about my dream girl yet," he openly admits. "But I think she should just be a cool person who understands me. I like to be in ten places at once in case I miss something, so I think she'll have to have a lot of patience with me also! Also I'm a person who like excitement. I can happily do without boring evenings in front of the TV. Oh, and she'll have to be someone who likes to have a bit of fun 'cause I'm the joker in the group!"
~TAYLOR~
Taylor is the most placid of the three Hanson brothers. The cute 14 yr. old often simply withdraws into the background and contemplates his own life, and life in general. Quite different from his younger brother Zac, the fair haired Taylor is a quiet and extremely gentle person who rarely comes out of his shell. "Sometimes it's a real problem controlling Zac, but he's often got so much nonsense in his head that we have to laugh. I can't imagine what it would be like if Zac weren't such a whirlwind," he declares, smiling at his small brother. When love is mentioned, the cute fellow goes red and looks down at the ground in embarrassment. "I've often thought about how nice it would be to fall in love", he says softly. But I don't believe you can imagine what it's like if you haven't experienced it. Still, I think about it a lot, of course, and I try to imagine what it would be like. But no girl has made my heart beat really fast yet. I haven't even kissed a girl yet. Actually I find the whole thing a bit embarrassing, though it's me who gets the most love letters. I read each letter very carefully. A lot of what is in them is very interesting. Lots of girls don't just write me a letter, but they write me fantastic romantic poems. I think romance is important, even when there's no love involved.
To me romance is a beautiful thing to be enjoyed. Sometimes I go away and just write a poem or even a song," he says, earnestly. "Lots of people think that we only deal with situations in our songs which we've experienced ourselves," he says. "That's not true at all. The songs I write are about my dreams and wishes too."
So what does the amiable chap dream about then? I'm a very shy person, especially where girls are concerned. Of course I often think it would be great to have a girlfriend. But with all the pressure we've been under, and will be under from now on, I'm afraid I haven't got time for a steady girlfriend.
I haven't got any clear picture of my dream girl. I don't mind a bit what she looks like, but she must be very cool and like listening to me. She has to be faithful too-that's important! But I don't want to rush things. After all I'm only 14 years old and have my whole life in front of me!"
~ISAAC~
The eldest Hanson brother is Isaac. But that doesn't mean that the 16 year-old is the man in charge. "Everyone's his own boss here. Our parents brought us up to be independent, so no one tells anyone else what to do." Isaac, like his brother Taylor, is a very placid person who likes to observe things around him. "The three of us are all completely different. Taylor and I are alike in some respects because we're rather quiet types. But basically the three of us couldn't be more different. And that's how it should be. It'd be pretty boring if we were all the same, wouldn't it?" And what's the blond bro's opinion about love then? "Yeeaass, well....," he begins, and looks a little embarrassed. "I've never really been in love yet. But I can't wait for it to happen. It must be an incredible feeling. I''m looking forward to it already! I think romance is a great feeling. You can be romantic without being in love with a girl. I must admit I'm an absolutely hopeless romantic, even though my brothers wind me up and tease me when I'm in one of my romantic phases. I don't think there's anything better than a fantastic poem, or just a romantic atmosphere. I think music's really romantic too." Isaac admits to having a bit of an eye for the ladies: "If I see a cool chick in the street, I'll watch her going by, won't I?" He looks at his brothers, who laugh. "This is usually the signal for Zac and Taylor to get at me," he explains "But I think it's quite normal for a sixteen year old bloke to look at a girl in the street, isn't it?!" Suddenly Isaac looks thoughtful: "Actually I think it's a shame that I haven't got time for a girlfriend. I've often wished I had someone who would take me by the arm when things go wrong. But we're always one the move, and it wouldn't be fair on a girl to have to sit at home waiting for me. I'd never ask that of a girl."
Does Isaac have a picture of his dream girl in his mind? "Hmmm...." He considers this and grins. "She must be extremely cool, of course, and like having lots of fun. I don't care what she looks like actually, but she must have plenty of personality. She should be the sort of girl who you turn round to look at when she comes into the room!"
