"THE NORTHERN LIGHTS"
by

Alice Bateman

Looking like ghosts of colour
Pulsating in the sky
Like the Goddess' diaphanous laundry
Hung out on the stars to dry

A privilege and a wonder
Sent from the Gods of Old
This beauty and this splendour
More valuable than Gold

Those privileged to catch a glimpse
Of this amazing sight
Are awestruck by the beauty
That dances in the night

Not static as the moon is
But dancing, twirling, change
The colours and the shapes
Always rearrange

A very special Gift
An awe-inspiring Show
Only in the frozen North
It makes me want to go
