"She Was A Beauty"
by

Alice Bateman

She was a beauty, used hard by life
Couldn't tell from her smile
That she'd ever seen strife

But the gray hairs, and stretch marks
Beneath her loose clothes
Attest to the pain in a life full of woes

There was love and laughter
Happy endings and sad
And it still continues
For which she is glad

It's the pain that makes us grow, you see
And it isn't up to you and me
To shirk our load or ease the strain
Of a heavy lifetime filled with pain

It is for God to share our load
And lead us on the winding road
The road of life, the road of love
'Til we can return to God Above
Alice
