SUMMER OF LOVE
Armando
Valle
I don't believe
A little bit of love
Came through the tv
This summer of love.
Some kids shot up their school,
Some man blew away people colored unlike him,
Some man bludgeoned his family as they slept,
Some drove around, offed themselves
And came through the tv
This summer of love.
I don't believe
I ever saw
Love exhausted, crumbling
In embraces, in each other's arms
Coming through the tv
This summer of love.
We're all the same on this
Tv bites of a world in decay,
Unwilling to be conscious,
Almost loving our ignorance,
Wielding jackknives of cynicism.
Moving past the televised tragedies
History forgets itself.
It is what it is.
The tide at sunset washes our footprints away as
We stand half-being on the shore.
This conviction won't abandon me
This summer of love.
