My Poetry

I wrote this poem with the future in mind. Take it as a warning, ...

The Sounds Are Competing
by Candice D.

Only now I notice the sounds
The sounds once ignored
sounds that seem annoying, part of life
Taken for granted
There they are.
Competing for my attention.
I hear them still,
Even though I am underground....
a butterfly has made its way in
I watch it flutter.
but it doesn't erase my fear...
The sounds are still competing.
Suddenly, a bright flash
and a huge sound has won,
Has drained the competition.
The butterfly stops dead in the air
And falls to the ground
I can't hear its body hit
the cement floor, I hear faint screams
The nuclear war has begun.
It's quiet now.

Los Sonidos Estan Competiendo
Candice D.

Solamente ahora me doy cuenta de los sonidos,
Los sonidos que antes yo ignoraba,
Sonidos que parecen molestosos, pero parte de la vida,
Dados por supuesto.
Alli estan,
Competiendo por mi atencion.
Los oigo todavia,
Aunque estoy bajo tierra.
Una mariposa se ha dirigido adentro
La miro revolotear.
Pero no me borra los miedos.
Los sonidos todavia estan competiendo.
De repente, un destello
y un sonido enorme ha ganado,
Ha agotado la competicion.
La mariposa para en el aire
Y se cae al suelo.
No puedo oir su cuerpo chocar con
el suelo de cemento. Oigi ligeros gritos.
La guerra nuclear ha comenzado.
Ahora silencio.

I wrote this one back in seventh grade.

Everyone
Candice D.

Everyone was laughing.
Everyone was glad.
Everyone was happy,
no one was one bit sad.
Unless you took a step forward,
To your surprise,
The reason they were laughing
had many a tear in her eyes.
