The Sumter Artists Guild was founded in 1966. It is comprised of amateur and professional artists and art enthusiasts. Meetings are held to promote, support and foster interest in art and to create an opportunity for our community artists to engage in co-operative artistic enterprise, and various events including the Iris Festival, the Fall Fiesta,the Sumter County Fair and our own Sumter Gallery of Art Shows.

Our meetings are open to the public and we encourage anyone interested in the arts to attend. We have a social time before meetings with wonderful appetizers, wine and punch... and we have many guest and local artists demonstrating at our meetings which encourages individual and group creativity. Please feel welcome to join us whatever your artistic level as our members vary and range from the amateur to the professional and we are glad for anyone interested in the arts to join us.... particularly if you want to watch interesting artists, from basket weavers to wood carvers... do their stuff!

The Sumter Artist Guild has recently started a painting group for all levels and types of painters. The group meets once weekly, at the Parks and Recreation Building by Patriot Hall. For more info call Myrna Dixon at 469-3847.
