South Florida is home to one of the most diverse populations in the U.S., with a restaurant scene to match.
In youthful Miami, South Beach is still the hub for hotspots, but downtown is gaining, with a number of new and noteworthy places.
Foodies are also heading north to gentrifying Fort Lauderdale, where star chefs are opening swank eateries.
Further north in posh Palm Beach, the dining scene is a mix of old and new society.
And the Keys remain steadfastly unchanging:
Locals hold onto their laid-back lifestyles, and the best spots have all been open for years.
Cuban food is, of course, top-notch here, and Floribbean cuisine, an invention
of local chefs that mingles Latin influences, native ingredients, and European classics, can be found on menus across the area.
But there's also Pacific Rim fusion, no-nonsense seafood, and so much more
a world of options spread over 200 miles of sun-kissed coastline. Mark Ellwood and Jan Norris
