					      15-1-1998

Hallo to all the Arcades and Emulators fans!

A not so long time ago...

What you are holding is a database that I hope will soon become the
official reference for any Coin-op Arcade fan and/or emu programmer.
I have started writing it when I realized that there was no such thing
on the Net. The most similar thing is the online database at www.vaps.org
(Video Arcade Preservation Society), from which I took 80% of the data,
but seems to be updated VERY rarely, and, of course, it's not as
comfortable as this dbase could be. I took other data from the emulators
readme's, from the zipped ROM diz's themselves, etc...
Note that I didn't mention Kem, X-Cade, Sage, Replay, Sparcade, etc ONLY
due to lack of updates AND make things easier for me: those who made these
astonishing emulators MUST NOT take this as an offense. In the future I
will maybe fix this swapping "Emulator" column with single emu columns
using "x".
As you can immediately see, many data are missing: YOU have to tell
me what is missing and what is wrong.

If you want to help building the perfect machine send me ONLY the
records you have updated in pkzipped DBase .dbf or MsWorks .wdb format.
(Well, plain txt will be good anyway... :-)
In case of .txt format, please put ";" between each camp, mantaining the
SAME order of my dbase i.e.

1941;Shooter;Capcom;1989;Callus;Cps1;68000;Z-80, YM-2151;Raster;;YES;1941.zip

What you need:

- An MsDos compatible PC running Windows.
- An application such as MsWorks, Excel, Access 95, or DBase.

What you can do:

- Port this dbase to non-MsDos systems and fill it with the names of the
emus that work with that particular ROM/system.
- Add all the missing data and correct wrong ones.
- Fill the OINK column (Official Internet (file)Name + "K" is for the nice
piggy sound :-) with the official "Tant" filenames.
- Fill genre column (shoot'em up, fighting, platform, rpg, etc...)
- Tell me if there are other types than laser, vector and raster games.
- Suggest ANY other kind of useful record, except highscores and votes.
- A VERY nice thing you can do is to send me a complete list of a company
(i.e. All the arcades produced by x, all the arcades produced in 19xx...)
- Tell me what CPU's do Namco, Capcom, Taito and Sega systems use and what
  other systems do exist.
- Do not bother about the ROM column: it will be replaced with Oink.
- Tell me an URL or a name of another software that supports .dbf
- Send me data only if you ARE sure they ARE correct.

What you MUST not do:

- Do NOT send me data if you are NOT sure they ARE correct.
- Do NOT send me data if you ARE sure they are NOT correct.
- Do NOT ask me for ROMs: you can find them on the net, YOU know where.
- Do NOT ask me when the X game will be emulated: I don't know.
- Do NOT spam me: spamming leads information to oblivion (of my trashcan).
- No votes or best highscore column will be added. Period.

What's New:

0.16 - Added various Mame 0.30 roms & data.

0.15c- Theo Philips has solved the damned Manufacturer bug.
Nothing else for this fix version. Still burping Xmas turkey :o
	   Removed swedish readme.

0.15b- I have discovered that in the .dbf file ALL the manufacturer
data are missing! I usually write under Works, but I always convert
my data to .dbf format for it is more popular. I really don't
understand why Works refuses to save those camps and ONLY those!
I have added for this time the COMPLETE Works .wdb version.
I will try to fix the problem next time.

0.15 - Added some very simple "Genre" categories
(Actually an Arcade is a vertical/horizontal action game, while
a Space is a space shooter and a Platform is a frame per frame
level game. But a Shooter is a non-space shooting game, while a
Racing is a sport in which you drive. I'm slightly going crazy... ;-)
	 - Added >400 new titles (though some of them are only alternative ROM
versions of existing titles) & fixed some data.
	 - Added a lot of Oinks, but still >150 to go.
	 - Added italian readme and a very funny swedish one.
	 - Added black&white (b/w) parameter to some old games under "Type".

0.14 - System column added.
Interface column added: any other than Jamma?
Front-end column removed (too many for each
emulator: we'll check this in the future).
Added 388 new titles & fixed some data.
(98 are Neo Geo titles: are there any more?)
Filled every "Type" camp with "Raster"
	   (check if they are mistaken).

0.13 - first official net release.

0.12 - first unofficial newsgroup release

Up the Arcadez!
