The Mayor of Palatine, Ms. Rita L. Mullins,
along with the Mayor of Chicago, Richard M. Daley, declared that
Vaisakhi Day, April 14, shall be called
Khalsa Day in Chicago and in the Village of Palatine, IL. This was
done in recognition of the Sikh Community's involvement in the social,
economic, and cultural sectors of Chicago and
Palatine as well as in commemoration of
the Sikh contribution to American culture since their emmigration to
the United States.
