Chicago Sikhs Visit Illinois State Capital
The Sikh community members of Chicago visited the Illinois state
capital Springfield, met the secretary of state Jesse White and also other legislators
on November 29, 2000. The trip was organized by the Asian American Advisory
Council to the secretary of state. The group met at the Illinois State building
in Chicago for breakfast and boarded the special bus for this purpose. At the
capitol they visited the assembly and the senate halls guided by the state representative
Lisa Madigan. Later they met state senator James "Pate" Philip in
his office to discuss some local issues of suburban Du Page county.
Jesse White had a reception for the group in his office and arranged to serve
them lunch in his office. A cordial but informative discussion on Asian American
community issues, the secretary's departmental services, and a question and
answer session followed the lunch. Many other Asian American communities were
represented.
