| About the Artist |
| In her poignant
portrayal of Selena, Jennifer Lopez charted her own destiny as a
mega-star. Now asking $1 million per film, Lopez has established herself
as the highest paid Latina actress in history. She has proved that dreams
can come true for those willing to work tirelessly to achieve their goals.
Now it's time to get back to her musical roots, where, like for Selena, it
all began.
Jennifer Lopez's career started out as a dancer, singer, and choreographer in Hinton Battle's Synchrocinicity musical in Japan. She was also cast in the musicals, Oklahoma and Jesus Christ Superstar. Through dancing, she landed a part on the television show, In Living Color, which compelled her to relocate to Los Angeles. The dancing also led to other acting parts in television shows such as South Central and Second Chances. Finally, she ended her TV career with a role as a nurse in The Crash of Flight 7 in 1993. She knew it was time to move on to the big screen and bigger recognition. Lopez appeared in Mia Familia in 1995, a film about Mexican immigrants in Los Angeles from the '30s to the present time. Lopez next appeared in Money Train where she played the part of Grace Santiago. She successfully competed against Ashley Judd and Lauren Holly to win the role co-staring with Robin Williams in Jack. The big break came when Lopez was asked to audition for the part of Selena in the movie which chronicled the life of slain Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla Perez. Many said Lopez's and Selena's lives had distinct similarities. Lopez admits she learned much from Selena's life. Incorporating Selena's gracious, patient interaction with fans greatly enhanced her career. Lopez added to her list of accomplishments by being ranked 16th on People Magazine's 1997 Fifty Most Beautiful list. Her next movie was Anaconda, a film about snakes as gigantic as her quest for stardom. Following that was Blood and Wine in which she played Jack Nicholson's Cuban mistress. In her most recent movie, Out of Sight, she stars opposite George Clooney. Her 1998 role in Out of Sight gave her the biggest paycheck ever paid to a Latina actress. In 1999, Lopez returned to music and produced the album, On the 6, which contained her hit, "If You Had My Love." Her dance moves make for high-energy music videos, a staple on MTV and VH1. In 2000 she starred in the motion picture The Cell and released the music video compilation Feelin' So Good. In fact, Lopez has made all the right moves in her career thus far and is firmly entrenched among the hottest stars in pop music. |
