Lachlan Curry 1994
I recently saw this movie and fell in love with it. I didn't know anything about it before I saw it, except that Russell was a pilot. After having seen it, it now holds a special place in my heart, so I am going to pay a little more attention to it then any of Russell's other movies. Why you might ask? Well because it was filmed about an hour away from where I have lived my whole life. Silly thing was...I didn't even know it until now, and the movie was made about 7 years ago. So close...yet so far away....ahhh... For The Moment was filmed in various areas of Manitoba, Canada. Including: Brandon, Winnipeg, and Grand Beach, plus a few beautiful fields and hills in between. I live about an hour away from Brandon and Winnipeg, and the CommonWealth Air Training Museum. For The Moment is about an Australian pilot, Lachlan (Russell), who comes to train in Manitoba with his friend Johnny, during the 1940's. Johnny is in love and Lachlan meets Johnny's girlfriend's sister, Lill, and is immediately taken by her. Lill is married however, but she is also very lonely, since her husband is off at war. Lill and Lachlan soon develop a secret romance as this beautiful little movie unfolds. Lachlan goes through some other twists during his training as a pilot as well, making this movie a quite enjoyable one. Russell is wonderful as always, he even sings Waltzing Matilda and recites the poem High Flight by John Gillespie McGee Jr. (a favorite of mine). He is funny and very, very charming. This is one of my favorite characters of Russell's and I highly recommend this movie. I may be biased however, being sucked in by the familiar country side! But if you love Russell with his native accent, his darling Australian humor and his charming self, you will like this sweet little love story. Enjoy.

Here is the poem:
High Flight By John Gillespie McGee Jr.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun split clouds-- and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of--Wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
