Sigh...

God, I'm bored...

I am once again reminded that nobody actually reads this site. I did have an email link up in the last entry, and heard absolutely nothing from anyone, so I don't know why I even bother. Maybe it's just because writing about stuff helps me through it, I dunno.

Well, anyway: life's been pretty much the same. The kids have been more-or-less okay, with a couple kids with "Selective Listening Disorder." You know, the ones who'll hear "okay, it's snack time" every single time, but definately won't hear you call them for misbehaving. Well, whatever -- some of the kids have been delightful, others have been annoying as heck. I guess that's how it goes in this line of work.

Saturday morning, I had a DAT meeting at the Red Cross. One of our guys must help with the newspaper or something, because he always brings papers with him, at least 5-10 copies. So I grabbed one and read the classifieds as soon as I got home. That was the beginning of my job-application blitz.

See, camp's done in a week, then I'm off to Massachusetts with the junior high youth group, then... I have nothing figured out. So I really need a job, and figured it was about darn time to find one. Luckily, it being the end of the summer with all the summer help leaving, there are a lot of jobs out there now.

Over the weekend, I applied to anyplace that allowed on-line applications -- about two or three, if I remember right. On the first day (Monday), I dropped off applications, resumes, and coverletters to no fewer than seven different places, from Cargill to Ithaca Flower Shop. Tuesday morning, I mailed in for two more. Wednesday morning, I drove out to two more. I already have had two interviews, with two more scheduled for Monday. Hoping something good comes up.

Two of the jobs were for third shift. You know, 10:00 pm until 6:00 am. Overnight. Going nocturnal. The graveyard shift. But the way I see it, it might be ideal. Think about it: what kind of social life am I missing? I don't have many friends in town anymore (not since most of 'em graduated!), so nobody to hang out with. I'm not at all comfortable with the predominant social scene for people my age: bars, clubs, etc. I really don't feel like I'd be missing much, except sleeping at night. On the upside, third shift doesn't conflict with anything I plan on doing this winter -- except maybe Evensong. But Trombone Troupe, the Ithaca Concert Band, and Theology School don't conflict with it at all. Nor would my job at First Pres. So third shift just may be ideal -- I would think there's less competition for that shift. What kind of nut wants to work THOSE hours (aside from me, of course)? Already have a second interview at Target for third shift work...

In other news, I've been checking out movies from the library lately, to avert boredom. My DVD-VCR combo player on the TV has some bad RCA jacks (great picture, no audio -- even swapped cables to test it) and I can't afford to get it fixed, so I'm having to play DVDs on my computer. Not the most comfortable set-up, but it ain't so bad. Besides, I've seen some decent movies this way. I guess that's a new goal for me: cover some classics of film and literature. Stuff I should have read or seen, but never have. So, my movie list so far:

I've also started doing nightly devotionals and some journaling again. Hey, I was in Staples, found and bought a great new pen, and needed some writing to do. Plus, I've needed to get back into devos for a long while now. What with everything else going on in my personal life, I lost track of my spiritual one, and now it's time to put the house back in order. I've started with a new devotional guide, and it's been surprisingly good. Simple, but the individual days so far have actually spoken to me very directly. Being that that's what they're supposed to do, I think that's a good step in the right direction.

Stef's coming for a visit tomorrow, so that should be a lot of fun. Then on Sunday I'm finally taking Ms. Tringle for a ride -- yep, that chauffeur gig finally has me doing something -- out to Interlaken.

Should be a fun weekend! I hope...
