Yep. The pictures of my new car have been taken, but with Gibson's brand new camera... and she hasn't installed the software on my computer to download the pictures. So no imagery yet. Sorry.
But the car's still awfully cute and driving great! My skills are really improving with that transmission. I'm enjoying it a lot. I may get to drive it on its longest trip yet: up to Macedon to visit my sister. She and our cousin Jen (who's currently in Buffalo, doing grad school or doctorate or some other random archaelogy-type schooling) were talking about doing a "cousin reunion" this weekend -- and by that, I mean this coming Saturday. If it all works out, I'd be giving our cousing Becky (Jen's sister) a ride up, since Becky goes to Cornell and I live in Ithaca. Confused yet? Just wait! They're hoping to get our cousing Beth (Becky and Jen's sister) up from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, where she studies. Beth can come visit me and Becky, then Beth, Becky, and I can go visit Stef and Jen in Macedon!
Okay, I must be sleepy -- I got kinda confused amidst all that.
We had a VeggieTales party at church on Friday night. It was a party centering around the release of Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler, a new episode coming out in early March. We got it first, for the purposes of the party, and it was a pretty nice time! Not a ton of kids, but fun, nonetheless.
Been reading a bit lately... recently finished Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. Funny stuff. Darkly so, but I gather that's his style. This is the only book of his I've read, although I have also read (and seen the one-man play of) "The Santaland Diaries," from his collection Holidays On Ice. Again, very funny stuff. Dry humor. Makes fun of the stupid people of the world who think they're the most intelligent... and yes, he does actually include himself in there, too. Quite good. I also read Life of Pi by Yann Martel while working an overnight shift in a local Red Cross shelter (we had a windstorm a short while ago; the 911 center told us to open a shelter, even though nobody came). Another good book. A lot of people seem to have already read it. I tend to be a bit behind the curve about this kind of thing -- for instance, I still haven't read The DaVinci Code... and actually have no great aspirations to, to be honest. Anyway, Life of Pi is a story about a kid from India whose parents are zookeepers and decide to emigrate to Canada in the 70s, but the ship sinks, and Pi (the kid in question) finds himself on a lifeboat with only an injured zebra, a hyena, an orang-utan, and a bengal tiger for company. It's the story of how he survives. Has some intersting things to say about life and society and faith. I'd definatey recommend it.
Picked up some more books yesterday... one about Ben Franklin's trip to France during the American War of Independence, one by the author of Fight Club about some guy who cons restaruants by pretending to choke on their food, I'm a Stranger Here Myself by Bill Bryson, and Slaughterhouse Five from Kurt Vonnegut. Borders had a "buy-two-get-one-free" sale, and I went nuts. Sorry. It just means I have some reading to do in weeks to come. I can deal with that.
Only other major news I can report is that I've finally gone broadband. Verizon DSL sent the church a letter recently about their new low rates for DSL, and "if you order online, your first month is FREE!" I passed the letter on to my boss, since we've gotten a couple iMacs donated to the Youth Center... I said, "hey, how about this? We could use internet service over there with the new computers." She said, "go for it," and I did. Only later did I realize what a headache it would be trying to get Verizon and their hardware to play nice with Mac OS. I've got my computer up and running with it, but the other two are still waiting on a workable networking solution. We'll see what happens. I've gotten some advice, and I'll be borrowing some hardware from the church to test it out over here. I'm hopeful. Now, to find a desk for the second computer downstairs...
That's about all I've got for right now. Life goes on, I still don't get much time off, and I'm still tired... but hey, that's life. And as we all know, that's better than the alternative.
Later, folks.
