NEW DBZ SITES
The problem with new DBZ sites now-a-days is that it is so hard for them to take off. What do they have to do to increase their hits? It's all about links now, not content. A site with a great layout, and superb content may not get the hits straight away, but it would do eventually. A site with a link to somewhere like Planet Namek would be rolling in the hits, even if it wasn't all that good. This may sound a little bias, but half the sites out there really aren't all that brilliant. I was taking a look around just yesterday, trying to find good sites to link to Vegita.com, when I noticed how bad most of these were. Their information was of a very small quantity, and in places it was inaccurate, their layouts were only average, but one thing I did notice was lots of affiliates and links. It seems that the bad information didn't affect all these people who became affiliates with them, just because they had a lot of hits. Another thing that I noticed with the majority of these sites is that they were all about multimedia. Planet Namek has a good reputation as being the best DBZ site on the web, and I agree, but where would it be without its multimedia? Sure it's got some detailed information, but without the multimedia it wouldn't get half as many hits as it does now. If you don't agree with me, then you obviously aren't looking at the sites carefully enough.
The site that I work on - Vegita.com has an impressive layout, detailed information, and is good in all areas, and I can truthfully say that it is better than some of the top 10 DBZ sites. We don't get many hits though, just because we don't have connections to the big sites. I have asked many of them to become affiliates, or at least link to us, but they just go onto our site, check the number of hits, and turn away, ignoring us. I for one am sick of it, no one gives a damn about us smaller sites, but everyone is desperate to see the bigger sites.
When I was looking around, I saw a number of small sites, which although they didn't have too many hits, they had impressive visuals, and good information. Most small sites don't have much multimedia though, which is where they lose out on all their hits. The ultimate dragonball information site is a good example that you don't need multimedia to do well. This guy got his link on Planet Namek, and from then on, people recognized how good his site was, and the hits kept on increasing. This is the same with all good sites. Their potential will eventually be realized, even if it does take a while.
Most small sites average 500-1000 hits a day. Once you get past that mark, then you know that you are doing enough to keep the visitors happy. In my opinion, a good site is updated daily, and has good information sections. Multimedia is not too important in a site, but a good picture gallery is important. Sites with all these deserve to do well.
If the sites workers put about 3-4 hours of work a day into it, then I think that their work should pay off, and they should become thriving, prosperous sites.
Sites that could still do well without their movie clips, etc, in my opinion are Temple O' Trunks, Planet Namek (Probably), and probably Ginga Ginga Giri.
I know that my site isn't yet even close to any of these, but one day it will surpass them all. The information is already excellent, but I have no video card, so therefore multimedia will always be scarce, seeing how I'm not prepared to steal other peoples movie clips which they have made themselves. Midi files and mp3s are about all our site can have in terms of multimedia, unlike the other giants, who have got full-length episodes and movies. Whilst we will have to struggle along with the very few hits that we get now, one day we will be one of the top sites, with links to the best sites, and we will be recognized for the quality that is in us. I hope that all other small DBZ sites like ours are too, then the web will be a better place for all.
