THE MOVIES

DBZ movies are the latest craze in the world of anime. The feature length movies contain mini-sagas so to speak. They are mainly good, despite the odd cash in. During this editorial, I will voice my opinion on them.
The animation of the movies tends not to be at all sloppy, and is equally as good as that of the series that is broadcast over TV. The detail on some of the characters faces is amazing, and the way that everything flows is superb. There are occasional bad apples in the long line of movies, but nothing's perfect, right?
Most of the movies that I have seen are in Japanese, with English subtitles, but from what I have heard, some of the voices sound pretty cool. The right tone of emotion have been put into a lot of them, making them more enjoyable. The dubbed ones that I have heard tend to be fairly terrible, but that's not the creators fault, it's the people who dub them.
The characters tend to be fairly cool, in looks, voice, and personality. My personal favourite character (Who isn't in the TV series) has got to be Tabion, with his cool sword, his swift attacks, and his grumpy personality which later opens up to show that he's a real nice guy. Jananba was also a mega-cool character, easily the best bad guy, with (Yep, you guessed it) an ultra-cool (Lots of 'cools' in this editorial isn't there?) sword, along with a pretty impressively evil look.
The plots of the movies are, in my opinion, a lot better than the ones that are spread over the sagas. Although the basic premise tends to be the same (Gohan almost gets killed, Piccolo or Goku saves him, Piccolo or Goku beats up the bad guys, then Goku gets beat up by the main bad guy, eventually overcoming him) they are always interesting, with little exquisite touches to enhance the viewing pleasure. I enjoy all of the little touches, which make the movies what they are, and they will continue to get more viewers.
The special effects are great, and increase the enjoyment of the film, and some of them have even been done on computers to make them look better.
Now, I didn't write this just to compliment the movies non-stop, there are a few bad points to it. The repetitive plot may always be good fun to watch, but it does make some of the lesser movies a lot worse. If they had an original plot and everything, they would be good fun to watch, but as they are basically the same as the others, the ones with bad characters, or bad animation (Despite this not being a major problem because of the high standards of the movies) it detracts from the viewing pleasure.
On the whole though, I must say that I do enjoy the movies, and the action tends to be a lot more intense, and a lot faster paced than the series. Whilst they are good spin offs of the show, they are very hard to get a hold of (Especially here in England where they don't sell them, so I am forced to download them from the internet). If they are just made to make a bit of extra cash, then they are made surprisingly well, but I think that a lot of effort goes into them, and if there is anyone who hasn't seen them yet, I must sya that you will be missing out if you haven't seen them. They are worth watching, even if you have to buy them, but there are a few good sites where they are available to download.
