Since 1993, Dr. Gary Mabry has been essential to the growth of the San Antonio Choral Society. He has been involved in choral music for more than twenty years, leading numerous adult church and community choirs in Colorado, Montana, and Texas. His degrees include a DMA in voice and pedagogy from the University of Colorado and a Master of Music in choral conducting from Hardin Simmons University.


Dr. Mabry is an Associate Professor of Music at UTSA. There he directs three choirs, teaches studio voice, choral literature, and conducting. He is also Music Director for Trinity United Methodist Church, an active faculty member at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan each summer, and he has served as conductor for The San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers.


Besides being a published composer, arranger, editor and reviewer, Gary Mabry often serves as an active adjudicator and clinician. He has brought to the post wide-ranging credits in all forms of vocal music, including a stint as a music advisor and vocal coach for the Robert Redford film, A River Runs Though It.


Mabry is an experienced performer and director in professional musical theater and opera in Colorado, Montana, and Texas. He has sung many leading roles such as Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Marcello (La Boheme), Guglielmo (Cosi fan Tutte), Juan Peron (Evita), and Horace Tabor (The Ballad of Baby Doe) including two guest appearances with The San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers.


Under his leadership, the San Antonio Choral Society has received critical acclaim for many performances throughout the years, including the Requiems of both Durufl� and John Rutter. In addition, the group enjoyed presenting the Texas premiere of James Syler's O Magnum Mysterium and the world prermere of Pobria Patria! by Elisenda Fabregas, a work commissioned by the Choral Society.



Ruth Moreland has served the Choral Society as assistant director since 1998. She received a degree in Vocal Music Education from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. At UTSA she conducted the UTSA Chorus, Concert Choir, and Madrigal Singers. Since 1993 she has been the Program Director for Music and Drama at the Harvest Fellowship Church where she founded the Harvest Chorale. She has also been chorus master for the San Antonio Lyric Opera and has appeared as a soloist with both the San Antonio Choral Society and the San Antonio Mastersingers. She works as adjudicator for vocal solo and ensemble competitions and currently teaches private voice and music theory.
