Ska Man

Where to begin? About 21 years ago a woman gave birth to a mammoth of a baby boy and due the originality of the parents named it Robert. (bow) or Robb if you are my friend, or Robbie if you knew me when I was 5, or Edward if you are my grandmother and/or trying to make me angry, or Bob Smith if I owe you money, or Ska, if you are a good friend. I grew up like everyone else in the world. Never really "fit" in , but made my own group of neurotic, interesting, and sometimes abnormal friends. ((grin) Sorry Pretzel and Orgo)...AND YOU TOO MARIE!

Anyway, you are not reading this for the past, you want to know about the Ska of the now. Well, if it isnt painfully obvious I am addicted to music, especially Ska. I have my know radio show. I have been to a handful of ska shows. Have a nice little collection of Ska. For those who ask, "What the hell is Ska?", here is a short answer. Ska is a form of music that tends to blend jazz/punk/big band/alt. rock all together. But like monkeys, Ska keeps evolving into new and "better" things. For more information about Ska check my Ska Facts link.

I presently go to Radford Univ. I am considering going into film or advertising. I am chronically creative and need to be working on a project all the time. These creative juices are visible in my art, poetry and constant humor. I enjoy making people laugh. It gives me satisfaction to see someone laugh and smile.

In addition to music, art, school work, and joke telling, I also have a passion for reading. I used to work in a bookstore, which I was actually an investment for them. Favorite authors are Stephen King, Robert McCammon, and Peirs Anthony. I eventually will write a book once I get my act together and put my ideas on paper.

Well, that is about it. I will be changing this as my page grows and evolves.

Update: 10/4/98

OK OK...it has been 5 months since I updated my page. I know I know. So hang on to your seats here we go.

Summer is far over and I am at school again. Where you ask? Radford Univ. I am majoring in Marketing and minoring in Media Studies. School is great and I love it here. Heather is up here with me and she is studying to be an Elementary school teacher, at first she didn't like it up here. but I think she is coming around.

I am positioning myself to get a radio show, come next semester. I am also on something called ROC TV...it is like Sat. Night live but for Radford. Not much more than that. Hopefully I will have my new photos page up soon..(with pic of the 21st..Heather...and more like that)

ps...maybe college will help with the spelling.

Update: 5/27/98

Well, slap my ass and call me Charlie..life is one crazy adventure you know? Well lets see, what to update? Work, well I finally told the "the Man" at Waldenbooks to kiss my back side and I got out of there taking with me the Pretzel Boy (for those who don't know him, my best friend and side kick) Ok, broke and no money I met a female type person in one of my classes at Western who owned her own Marketing compnay (red flags red flags)..so we got to know one antoehr and bam she offered me a job make much better money than that evil bookstore. Guess I will have to see how that works out.

Heather is great...she stills has me wrapped around her finger and I still worship the ground she walks on...(sad sad I know, but she is worth it)

Well, this summer I didn't retreat to the beach like I always do(which was a tradition with me that start several years ago and has to do with the Anti-Christ (the ex)). I decide to stay in town with my friends, new job and my sweetie. Next year I will be going to Radford and majoring in Marketing...woo hoo

get me off this crazy ride called life

ps...(insert witty comment about lack of spelling skills)

2/18/98

ahhh....the new year has come and like alot of you have heard me say..."Winter is to Robb as Spring is to Lovers"...well, I have finally met someone. Heather, (whose picture you can check out on my Photos page when I get it up) is the sweetest most caring person that I have ever met. We are too much alike that sometimes it is scary (and hey she puts up with my humor) I guess we have been officially a couple sense New Years, but we have grow very close and everyone in my family loves her...(even the dog)....this has never happened before so I am a bit taken back....(you ask) Are you in love, Robb?....the answer would have to be yes...I feel so enlightened when I am around her....anyway, you are probably gagging from all the cheese so I will leave it at that.

As for EMT.....I past my state exam so I will be a certified EMT for the next 5 years...woo hoo...I am learning alot, but don't think that it will be a profession...Originally it was to kill time, but now I find it as a good stress reliever.

As for Ska......Still collecting CDs.....but can not get my foot in the door to play it on the radio stations, eventhough it is the new fad that is sweeping the nation...oh well, just remember when it gets big where ya heard it first as I do...

As for work....DAMN THE MAN!!!

ps...EYE LIKED TO SPEEL!

11/15/97

hmmm...I thought it was time to update this...My mom married dad number three at a lodge in the middle of no where...it was a Scottish wedding and I got to wear a kilt....now..the damn thing won't leave...I love wearing it....My mother is so happy, I wish her the best for she does deserve it.....as for school..it is going ok...pretty boring there...work?.....is work....I have finally joined on with a team at the squad.....the have dubbed me Thor...YIKES...now that is a name that I have to live up to...as for ska.....that shall never die in my heart.....still going to shows...still buying CDs..(guess grandma won't get that liver transplant this year)...I am now coming up with a plan....a plan to bring ska here....but alas, the two radio stations, which consist of a K-92 new rock and hip-pop and 96.3 southern rock with a touch of alt. rock, won't play much ska....(sigh)...so that persuit continues.....

as for love?....well, I have dated....with no success....friends say that I am "too picky"....I have NO reason or right to be, but...I think I might be...just don't want to get hurt again...can you relate?

p.s....DIE SPELLING, DIE

Update:9/10/97

Home is where the heart is.......I think I would like to move to a neightboring lung. Well, I am back home after escaping to the beach for the summer. I am taking elementary business classes that are not going to be a problem. Had to drop the radio show, which would have required alot of time that this little Ska Man doesn't seem to have anymore. But hopefully be able to pick it up next year. I miss Tech. I miss the partying, the friends, and of course the freedom, which apparently killed my grades and in return took away my partying, friends and freedom. Bit of a paradox, eh? However, one lives and learns....I am not as miserable here as I thought I would be. I am staying pretty busy. Working in a book store, joining the local rescue sqaud with Orgo, and rebuilding a socail life ...(sorry online friends I should be back soon). The Anti-Christ...(which if you know me you would get the reference) has left this little hole in the earth...for awhile. I am here with my family....and Dad number three, whom seems to be a pretty cool bloke.

In the above entry I said I was searching.....well....I still am...I need to remember that I need to find myself first....so....if you see me, hang on to me till I get back......(grin)

p.s....SPEEELING IS FOR THE WEAK!!!

Update:5/3/97

I guess this can be an online personal diary. So here is an update. Tech draws to a close and I am searching. For what you ask? I job....money....love....happiness. Whatever. I have decided to go back home next year and go to the Community College and take a class or two here at Tech. Need to save money. As of now, I have decided to go into advertising. I love commericials and think this will be an excellent way to vent my creativeness.

That is all for now, be updated later.

p.s...I can not spell..:)
