HOW TO TRAIN YOUR CAT

"If you are worthy
Of its affection;
A cat will be your friend,
But never your slave".
(Theophill Gautier)

If you want to train your cat as a dog with "SIT","STAY"or "HEEL" -
put this idea out of your head !!!
Because cats know, how to conduct themselves,
better than you.
Do not worry, you can modify your cat's abilities.

LEARNING TO USE A CAT DOOR

Many people find a small "cat door" useful to allow their pets to enter and leave the house as they want.To teach a cat to use a door usually requires, that the door be tied or propped open and the cat induced to walk through the small opening in order to obtain food or get into the house.

After the habit is established, the door can be suspended halfway open with a piece of string, so that the opening is still visible, but the cat has to partially push the door while entering or leaving. In two or three phases, over the next few days, the door is propped open less until the cat is pushing the door open from the completely closed position.
A door, that swings freely in both directions, can be a problem, if other cats in the neighborhood watch the resident animal enter the house through the opening and decide to follow.

TOILET TRAINING

To start with, the normal litter box was regularly using it in this location it was removed and a different "litter box" was fashioned. A cardboard rim was cut in the shape of the toilet seat and covered with a sheet of clear plastic material. This was then fastened by wires to the underside of the toilet seat, so that, when the litter material was placed in the toilet seat the rim of the seat formed the edge of the litter box and the plastic sheet formed the bottom.With plenty of litter material in the toilet seat, the cat readily used the new litter box, which was, of course, temporarily removed from human use. In a few days. after the cat became accustomed to using the toilet seat with litter, the amount of litter was reduced by about half. The cat had learned by this time to stand with its feet on the toilet seat. Over the next few days, more litter was removed, and holes were made in the plastic to allow urine to drip through. Finally, all the litter and the plastic sheet were removed.
